Driving me crazy. What do you do or use. My house has a lot of vents and wind or whatever comes in. I bought a machine to use for the den and bedroom. Right now I can't hear it but I am driven nuts by the whooshing? or some times just noise. Doctor was too busy so I went to urgent care for maybe pills for anxiety. The doctor there wouldn't perscribe since I am 80 and might fall.Never had this before but the last few months have been horrible.

I am wondering if the vents in the OP's house need to be repaired or replaced. Mine were replaced when I had a new roof put on.

I would also consider the possiblity of an ear infection, or inner ear problem which might be intensifying otherwise "normal" noises.

I have a ringing in my ears all the time, but at night it is worse. I use QVC to help me with it. I turn on the TV and set the volume fairly low. I can sleep through the night that way. I hear the TV, but not enough to keep me awake. I use QVC because the volume stays the same all the time. Nothing causes it to suddenly get louder like some of the ads on other channels. But, see a doctor to find out if there is something causing the noise.

I’m so sorry, @halfpint1. As you can see by these posts, lots of people have a similar problem. Ringing in the ears is called tinnitus. Some people hear whooshing or clicking noises, and they might even feel dizzy at times. This is called Meniere’s. I have that, but it has to be diagnosed by a doctor. Sometimes just an inner ear infection can cause weird noises.

So as other posters said, your doctor needs to listen to you and give you a diagnosis. White noise is a great idea for whatever it might be.

I know how annoying all this can be, so I hope you get answers soon!
