I just started doing this a couple of times a week with the spray, first I apply coconut oil on the area first, then spray so that it doesn't itch. I use Spectrum coconut oil for hair and skin.

Grab a bag of spinach...or eat a sweet potato!

Chard is another green, but most greens will have a substantial amounts of magnesium. Natural sources are always the best route before supplements. HTH

I have read that most people are deficient in magnesium and that occasionally eating foods with magnesium isn't enough. I also bought magnesium oil from Amazon hoping it would help with sleep, but it makes my skin itch like crazy! Curious to hear about others' experiences.

I think for some people, it might work. I've tried the magnesium supplements, and the magnesium oil - I had no benefits from either. My naturopath also prescribed compounded magnesium - again, nothing. I hope it works for you.

I make my own magnesium oil from Ancient Minerals Magnesium Bath Flakes. Like Epsom salts. Spray it on muscles that tend to spasm, and it helps relax them, which makes it easier to sleep.

Have heard of spraying it on feet, but never tried that.

As far as the itching, don't recall hearing about that, but have heard that after 20 minutes you can remove any excess that hasn't soaked into your skin. I never bother, just spray and go, so to speak.

ETA: Doing some quick research, extreme side effects /may/ be caused by a severe deficiency. This is not from a medical site, tho there are medical people who contribute. OTOH, if there's more than just magnesium chloride and distilled water in the premade oil, it may be another ingredient causing the side effects.

BTW, I checked on Earth Clinic.

Since magnesium oil is just magnesium flakes (chloride) diluted in water, you can dilute it further to help stop the itchiness.

This topic has piqued my interest.

I’ve checked e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e.

There there are no studies to support Epsom salts,

or any other topical treatment like oils/lotions,

to help with the increase of magnesium within the body.

Ingested protocols, ie food/supplements/drinks, is the only way

to change the magnesium levels in the bloodstream.

Our epidermis is the barrier. Though, not all topicals are locked out

by the skin. Many chemicals enter our endocrine system, which cause issues down the road, but directly in the bloodstream? Nope.

Unless I see documentation to prove otherwise, things like

epsom salt baths, oils, lotion, to increase your magnesium levels

are just a placebo effect.
