I WORK AT A SPEECH AND HEARING CENTER IN VIRGINIA. IF YOU PURCHASE HEARING AIDS FROM COSTCO YOU WILL HAVE TO RETURN TO COSTCO TO HAVE THEM SERVICED (REPAIRS AND ADJUSTMENTS). OTHER HEARING CENTERS DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS FOR REPAIR OR THE PROGRAMMING EQUIPMENT TO ADJUST THE COSTCO AIDS. ALSO, I DON'T THINK THE PEOPLE WORKING AT COSTCO ARE NECESSARILY LICENSED AUDIOLOGISTS--THEY MAY BE JUST HEARING AID DEALERS. IF YOU HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THIS FINE. SOME INSURANCES (BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD FEDERAL) DO COVER A PART OF THE COST OF HEARING AIDS. CHECK WITH YOUR INSURANCE TO SEE IF YOU HAVE HEARING AID COVERAGE.

A screening test at work found hearing loss in one ear. I was told to be sure to go to a doctor who specializes in hearing problems rather than a hearing center.

I was referred to an ear/nose/throat specialist to diagnose cause of hearing loss. It may be more advantageous to see an MD as far as insurance goes. Check into it.

I went to an Audiologist and spent $2,600 for hearing aid - it has to be almost 5 years ago.

Then I went to an Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor a few years later for another hearing test. She recommended going to Costco. I went last year (2013) and got 2 hearing aids for $1,999. They are OK. Not as good as the $2,600 hearing aid. I wanted hearing aids for "everyday". And Costco ones are OK.

This year (2014) a new manufacturer is making the Costco hearing aids. The same one that made my $2,600 hearing aid. I am so tempted to buy another set, just to see what they are like. But the ones from last year are still working.

I have tinnitus. And the $2,600 hearing aid is made especially for that condition.

The hearing aid guy at my Costco is WONDERFUL! He is thorough and knows the products. He is really first rate. I think it would be good to just check them out. It cost nothing to talk to them.

The Costco magazine happens to have an article in the January 2014 issue about hearing aids. Not sure if you can access it on line. But it might be helpful. Of course it says such nice things about the hearing aids at Costco but still it is informative.

I have narrow ear canals which causes a wax build up problem. I do have some loss of hearing but sadly insurance does not help pay for hearing aids and they are terribly expensive. I have to see the doctor at least every six months to irrigate my ears and even if I had hearing aids that wouldn't solve the problem with the wax build up.

This aid fitting enhanced the sound quality from outside. Mostly hearing aids with sophisticated digital circuitry is available and which would be the best option too.
