when I told relatives at a family dinner I was drinking three 16.9 ounce Mountain Dews a day everyone flipped out on me. I told my niece I've been drinking these for years. Used to be a "Tab" gal in the 70s, switched to Pepsi for a while and found Dew in the early 90s. I don't like the latest fad of scolding people over what they eat - I'm not a gym rat never been. Much like the cigarette frenzy in the 80s and 90s. It used to be you could smoke anywhere back in the glory days of the 1950s. Now they are after Soda, really ruined the dinner made me feel guilty.

I was in a horrible accident a few months ago. My recovery was filled with classes and therapy with other patients and most were stroke victims. The medical classes they made us attend talked about possible causes of strokes. We were warned that sodas should be avoided completely. Seeing all that I did, I doubt I will ever have another soda - diet or otherwise.

I understand how you feel. My suggestion is to see it as familial concern for your health, not a scolding.Your family means well. They want you around and as healthy as you can be. My sister has had a soda addiction for years so I know it's hard.

My MIL eats terribly, if she eats at all. She's very sickly and she responds with similar anger when her son and other family members try to coax her to eat better. Her doctor told her she was prediabetic in 2014 when we lived with her and she just focused very angrily on what she couldn't eat.

As a child of a chain smoker, it's hard for me to attest to the glory days of smoking. These habits went to the wayside because back in the day they were glorified by companies at the expense of their unsuspecting customers.

It's a miracle I never had asthma as a child. The walls of my house were always yellow. If I returned a clothing item to a store, it reeked and I would be given a hard time. I spent my youth going to the store to buy cigarettes for my mom. It's not the childhood I was hoping for.

My suggestion to replace Mountain Dew would be filtered Water. Sorry to be a "wet blanket" but all that soda is conducive to getting kidney stones.

Mtn Dew was my vice, until the day I decided to give up High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Switched to unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar in spring water, with one of those powdered sugar-free flavor packets (no aspartame, I forget what the sweetener is tho). Took care of my problem, and I also stopped waking up in the middle of the night with terrible acid reflux.

Usually Diet Rite Soda. I decided to quit when I wanted to improve my overall health and lifestyle. It was not easy... just like quiting smokin 30 years ago cold turkey was for me...... but when you really set your mind to wanting to change... you just do it.

I decided to start making herb tea as my beverage... drink it warm or cold depending on the season... add stevia to sweeten. I have been doing this now for going on 5 years. I brew enough for 2 days a time and just store the brewed tea in the refrigerator in a container. I have to brew more every few days... but that is easy.. let it cool and pop into the refrigerator.

My tea of choice is celestrial seasonings brand.. I brew the vanilla Chamomile Sleep blend tea as I like things that give me a calm feeling and I can drink it up until bedtime. It also tastes so so good!. They make a great variety of flavors of tea to choose from. I am not against caffeine, so it you wanted the buzz of caffeine you could brew your favorite green or black tea in their line.

This is also a cost savings change from diet or reg soda. It is much less expensive to brew your own beverage. And better for you. It is like anything... a choice you have to make and just stick with it for a few months until it becomes a habit like the soda habit is now.

I hope this helps you. Like I said, I was a total soda drinker... up to 6 plus cans a day and usually more. I know that not drinking that anymore is a big health plus for me today at 62.

I just drink water now, I have been battling with gerd and gastritis, for months ,and stopped all diet soda and tea too

I really miss the tea, and now drink only hot water, in its place. I don't feel any better for doing it, but I am not any worse ,either

You have to decide what is right for you, other people don't live in your body,so to heck with what they think

Unless a Dr tells you to quit ,its just your opinion against theirs
