We can't drink, wash clothes, shower, cook or anything that has to do with water except flush our toilets. There was a chemical leak early this morning that got into our water supply. Needless to say the stores are out of water and ice now. The hospitals are on conserve and might have to rely on other hospitals for linens because of not being able to wash anything. Our governor is seeing about having water flown in here. Schools and restaurants are shut down as well. This is scary because it makes you realize how vunerable we truly are.

If you don't mind, please say a little prayer that this will be fixed soon and no one has gotten sick.

I hope there is a quick solution and that everyone stays safe.

As a brief distraction, i go way back on these boards.. and i used to have quite a big collection of the boyds bears. I eventually gave them all to deserving friends when i downsized about 10 yrs ago. Your nic made me think of them again! Sweet!

Take care & be safe ~ sue

Thank you SuesCat, I got back a good ways on here too. I collected the Bears as well. I still have them all but a lot are boxed up or put in a tote. The stuffed ones are in a tote because our new dog loved them very much. That was very nice of you to give your Bears to your friends. I am sure they appreciate the quirkiness of them all. I love them.

Prayer was said for all of those affected in W.V.

My Daily Devotions scripture for today sounds like it is fitting for your state's situation. Its Psalms 46:1-3 NKJV

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its WATERS ROAR AND BE TROUBLED, though the mountains shake with its swelling.

Keep the faith!

I live 78 miles north of Charleston, and heard the news yesterday evening upon my return from Parkersburg. My first reaction was how this was going everyone. Shortly after, they issued the alert that schools, restaurants, etc. receiving this water not use it. I saw the video of the woman who bought bags of ice to melt for water because water was sold out.

I think everyone should keep a backup supply of water as one never knows when it will be needed. It is inconvenient not to shower but the body needs water internally.

Bless your heart! I just heard 200,000 people are involved due to 5,000 gallons of methanol being spilled. Water deliveries are on the way and volunteer fire stations will likely be pick-up locations. Do you have snow on the ground? If so, you can collect and melt to use for bathing. If not, baby wipes can be used to get you through. Buy dry shampoo in the can at a drug store. Suave has a good one that is price effective for your hair. Use anti-bacterial hand wipes. If the ones in the box are sold out don't forget the bar soap aisle where they have the pump bottles. Consuming liquids, for the short term, can range from juices to milk both shelf and refrigerated items. Food is also a good source grapes, Popsicles, frozen juice bars etc. I am sure your local news coverage will keep you well informed. Maybe other's have other creative ideas of how to make do. Thinking of you and hoping this gets quickly taken care of.

We went through this about 15 years ago....if I may offer a couple of suggestions...make sure that you have a full tank for your gas grill to cook...buy tin foil as food will be cooked in tin foil on the grill...no washing dishes ...with this in mind, get disposable forks, knives and spoons & plates also paper towels. The National Guard will get an allotted amount of fresh water to you but bear in mind, it won't be a lot to begin with. Sometimes we had to provide our own containers for water that was to be used to flush toilets. You truly don't realize how dependent you are on water until you have to do without..good luck to you and try to be creative. :-). Also, bleach will be useful.

I heard this story and felt so bad. Why were they even permitted to house those chemicals so close to the river/water supply? I have already said prayers, and will send more. Please take care, I also worry about wild animals drinking this water.

The other tips are so smart. Start filling the bathtub with snow to flush toilets. Turn off the ice maker in your fridge. Tape a cup over the faucets so you don't forget that it's contaminated, (especially kids).

We went through this too. Good suggestions. What really helped (until we got some water) was to use paper plates, cups and plastic forks, knives, etc. Then you don't have to worry about washing dishes. And use your microwave as much as possible to avoid having to wash pots and pans. We were finally allowed to boil water and use that for washing but it sounds like your problem is more serious than what we had.

Good luck and take care.
