Hi everyone! I have been burning the candle at both ends. I enjoy being busy but I don't enjoy chaotic and I have to say, that's what it's been. So if I don't read and post here, it's nothing personal, my schedule changes day to day so I'm just doing the best I can. Lots of house stuff now, things are moving quickly as closing day approaches(suppose to lay tile today, they did the stone front last week). DH was in DC(left Sunday after church) all week so I'm on my own for most of the stuff.

Pitch black out this morning and you could see every star in the sky, very peaceful. That's so grounding, every day God seems to be giving me just what I need to keep me going. And, yes, cooler temps here which really helped this a.m....I ran 4 miles without stopping and felt great after taking Lucy for 2...no speed though because I'm fasting today(something new for me) and I had on my pilates/Barre pants that kept falling down. I have different clothes for each sport/class and it is giving me a lot of extra laundry on top of doing laundry for 4 of us(We're living here for free plus they all work so I wouldn't have it any other way)...seems like it's for 7 people with the work-out gear.

I have Pilates at 10 and am really going to push for the Tower today as we haven't done it yet this week and I really like it. Although I am sore from yesterday so maybe I shouldn't. I did a CF-style work-out and yoga and my traps and biceps are sore so I will have to take it easier today plus I'm hiking afterwards and it's still going to be warmer this afternoon. I'm so jealous of those 5 states that have snow already.

We are planning a couple of big trips so that just seems to be one more thing to work on but know it's worth it. We're doing NYC for Christmas(provided no major illnesses) and are also planning on renting an RV and going to the Appalachian Mountains and Aracadia State Park for some serious hiking(we bought Lucy a new hiking sling and she loves it!). With 4 adults, 3 dogs, and a cat...doesn't that sound like fun? I know you're all jealous...wink, wink.

nomless and bopper...I got a pair of Dansko mary-jane clogs from the Q and I love them. So much so, that I came back for a 2nd pair(color). So comfortable right out of the box..they had all 5-stars last time I looked. We have the dead leaves here too..just like last year, but then you have a beautiful one here and there so hopefully it's a start.

Dr.kelli...I'm doing yoga too, I love what it does for your bod. One of the ladies I hiked with teaches yoga so we did some out in the woods - so energizing. I went to a doctor last week and he said something that made me very happy...he may need glasses but of course I absolutely love him now...lol! But, yes, usually they are in their own world.

Mssfoxxie...if you're doing light weights like that, you can do them back-to-back unless you're sore, then I wouldn't. The every other day is more for heavy weights and/or if you're sore. I do back-to-back with my classes and even Platform is quite intense but when I'm able to do CF-style weights, I don't do strength the day after. You rock! I have a lady in 2 of my classes that is in her 70's and can lay her stomach flat on her extended legs and grab her toes. We're becoming friends...very sweet and always on the go.

Laura...hope the job is going well and maybe you've heard from the other company(hospital I believe). I haven't read all the way back so please forgive me if you're already working there...if so, congratulations...lol!

MickD...Hope the pond is in...looks like it could double as a pool! Also hope your foot is okay...my shoulder is giving me fits and I won't even get into my neck.

Judy...hope your trip was great, I didn't see a post from you lately. Have a wonderful day everyone!

Hi my fellow fitness enthusiast @bopper!

Stopped by to say hello, and let you know I am still around here on pretty much the same forums as the past many years.

Right now when asked, I can honestly say "I am doing "GREAT" when it comes to Physical and Mental Fitness. Some don't understand that those are partners in everyone's journey to true total fitness. Without them working in tandem, those individuals will not reach what I call Total Fitness. One is as important as the other.

Went from my weakest point when I spent 6 days in the hospital with Cellulitis. Few times in my life have I been that weak, physically. Mentally I was/am still the external Optimist, and that is what sustained me on my trip to my present status, Great Physical and Mental Fitness.

Took me about 6 hard months of a broken rib/body beat up from top to bottom, but I got to my goals. Weeks of Balance Physical Therapy, and hours spent at home working every way I know how to improve my balance. This was done primarily for my one true love, ice skating.

Weight is exactly where I want and choose it to be. That part I won't say was easy, but I have changed my weight for decades, to suit the physical activities that have been a part of almost my whole life. One weight works better for certain activities, but is not the best to reach my maximum capabilities in others.

I spend around 2 hours on many of the 7 days of the week doing different things with different muscle groups, primarily the most important muscle, which is my twice damaged heart(2 heart attacks). Treadmill test a couple months ago placed me in the top 3% of men in the United States in the 70-80 year old Age Group, and the Top 10% of men over 60 years old. I now am a very fit 78 year old codger.

Today will be what I call "An Easy Day". Usually a moderate heart rate for half an hour on recumbent or NuStep, and half hour on the treadmill. Everyday includes at least 20 minutes of isolated ab exercises, including many at Total Inversion on my Teeter Inversion Table. Don't know of any Ab Workout I have ever done, that is harder than Ab Curls while perpendicular to the floor. Great for my Abs, and also for my Lumbar Spine, which is minus my L-3/L-5 and S-1 discs.

Skating tomorrow and that I now can call a workout as I am have enough balance back to be able to reach MY Max Heart Rate doing many Intervals, for much of the 2 hour skating sessions.

Tomorrow night I will be attending my 1st High School Reunion. Didn't graduate high school, but they sent me, and also called, to ask me to attend. Since this is the 60th year reunion, I figure it may be my last chance to attend one. Wasn't known by many classmates as I was the fat kid that worked 3 nights a week till 12:30am, which ruled out every extracurricular activity but Band. Then I wad the Introvert, now I am an outgoing enthusiastic and very vocal older man. No unwanted fat tissue and the much worked for Fitness Levels that have satisfied many of my life's goals in that respect.

Not one that is "book smart", but one that I consider "life experience smart", which allowed me to retire long ago at age 52. I did get my GED during my 6 years of service in the United States Army Reserves.

Hope all is well with you @bopper, it is great to see you continue this thread each month, for how many years now? Take good care my friend and my best to you and all of your loved ones, including those with fur, if you have them.

JOhn(hckynut)

Remember that total fitness is not a persons body weight, and going just by scale numbers and/or BMI , tell you little about your body composition. It is how you feel/how your clothes fit, not arbitrary numbers shown on ANY Scale or someone's theory by using a BMI number.

Also remember that Total Fitness, for most requires a change in Lifestyle, not a month or a few months of weight loss and intermittent physical workouts. Success, to me anyways, is a life long commitment to a healthy food program and the same for physical fitness, and don't forget that the brain also needs to be challenged on a regular basis also. Things like hand/eye coordination and reflex and balance are huge factors as the years and decades grow in numbers.

Hope your commitment is a lasting and successful journey for you, one that you can also enjoy and reap the many benefits that are available to you.

hckynut(john)

Good morning to everyone and a welcome to those who might be here for the first time. September already....Wow! Senior time goes fast, let me say. I can remember when I was working when Fridays took forever to come around, lol.

Anybody noticing how much meds are going up? My husband takes several medications, one of which is sleeping medication. It is assumed it is because of PTSD (Vietnam). Every so often they have to change the pill because it stops working. Last month, the doctor prescribed one that was going to cost over $300. He found this out when he went to pick the drug up. He didn't buy it. He called the doctors office they said come in for samples. Yesterday, he went in for a follow up visit and was prescribed a different pill that was supposed to be cheaper. Surprise again. Insurance wouldn't pay it...$100! Things are changing so fast that the doctors don't know what is affordable to their patients from one day to the next.

His other meds have went way up as well. Lucy for me, I take no regular medicine except for my glaucoma eye drops. That went from mail order $15 every three months to $35 or $40 every three months...I forget because I stretch it to every five or six months. I squeeze the tiniest bit out of that bottle. My eye pressure is normalized so it must be enough.

So far, we are blessed that being on Medicare and a supplemental insurance plan F, we have no copays to deal with although the supplemental insurance just went up. I'm trying to stay thankful (and am, most of the time) but it's getting harder. This can take, not only your discretionary funds away but eat away at your budget.

Enough bad stuff. I'm going to do senior cardio and my walk this morning. Yesterday, I just did my walk. Have a great day everyone!

I can't believe this year is coming to an end. Biding my last few hours until 5pm when holiday weekend begins.

It's been rainy and windy thanks to Harvey over the past two days but it's becoming beautiful fall weather as it clears. I will be out hiking either tonight or over the holiday.

I love Fall!

Hi, all. I can't believe it's September already. Yesterday I posted on the other thread...today I remembered to look for the new one.

This morning I went to the library book sale and found some old titles I was looking for for 50 cents each. Can't beat that. Then hit the grocery store. Then did some time walking on the treadmill. 😀 It's not very warm outside today but very humid so still uncomfortable to be outside.

I hope everyone has a fun holiday weekend!

How is everyone this morning? Probably chilly. @nomless, although it was slightly cool here yesterday, it must have been in the fifties last night because I had to get up and put a blanket on the bed. Fall might arrive early it seems but then again Mother Nature can be very fickle, right?

My WW meeting is this morning and I'm glad because this evening, we're going to a cookout. My weight was up two tenths of a pound last week and I was ok with it because I received irreplaceable enjoyment. But this week, if I gained anything, I won't be a happy camper because I was mostly on plan. We will see, lol.

After my meeting, I might stop at the health center and walk the track since I know I'll be mostly sitting this evening.

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable weekend. Be safe.

Foxxie, I hope you were satisfied with your WW results and that you enjoyed the cookout.

I read an interesting article today about how ability to balance on one leg is a good test of brain health. Eyes are open for this test. If you can balance on one leg for more than 20 seconds, your brain is probably healthy. Less than 20 seconds might indicate risk of mini strokes. Balancing on one leg with eyes closed is much more difficult. Try it, you'll see!

I took a few days off from running. I don't know if I have a sciatic thing going on or what. Both glutes. I have a history of left sciatica, but this is mostly right. I may have to start total gym again for cardio. Not happy about this.

Did 3 mi/36.30 min on the treadmill.

@nomless, that is amazing! I tried it with my eyes open and it was extremely easy. We do balancing a lot at my exercise center. But when I tried it with my eyes closed...I couldn't do it for more than ten seconds and I wobbled. I going to practice that. Were you able to do it?

My WW results were great. Three pounds down! Last week was two tenths of a pound up. So I'm 16 lbs down since July 2nd. I ate mostly basic salad all last week. At the cookout, I was a bad girl, though. I ate one of my butter cookies and a slice of Red Velvet cake. I didn't finish the cake because it tasted too store bought. I also ate macaroni and cheese and lasagna.

Today was plain steel cut oatmeal for breakfast. When I came home I snacked on some fresh strawberries while I made some soup with cabbage, green beans from my garden, I puréed some tomatoes from my garden along with other things for flavor. There was some leftover Eckrich skinless sausage so I threw that in although it wasn't even enough for a serving once it went into the big pot of soup.

@MickD, I'm sorry that you are in pain. I've heard that sciatica really hurts. I don't know how old you are but maybe you need to cut back some?

I did my walk this morning along with a cardio class.
