Do any of you know if the mouthpiece type, snore stopping apparatuses work? Thanks in advance.

I tried several and nothing worked. Get a sleep study done. If you need a CPAP, it will work. They do stop snoring.

I don't know about that one, but....my dh snored so loud the neighbors could hear him. I made him sleep on 2 pillows and got the red box breath rite strips. No more snoring.

My husband uses the nose strips. For the most part, they work. Occassionally he will start snoring during the night, but that's usually because the strips comes loose. I also snored but ended up having a sleep study done and I do have sleep apnea. I use CPAP.

I did the sleep study and do not have apnea but got the cpap. The problem is that the cpap is causing dental issues due to dry mouth. That's why I was hoping to try the mouth appliance. Before I spend $1200 for a custom one from the dentist, I wanted to see what the reaction to them was.

@poppinfresh 2 pillows? Does he sleep on his back?

My son bought a mouth piece on line that molds to your teeth and has some metal pieces on the sides to a just to your mouth. He swears by it. I don't know what it's called, I would ask him but he's a sleep.

@sweetee2I would love to know what his is called. I saw several online and I'm just not sure. I'd like to go cheap, cheap, cheap just to TRY something, then spend more money to invest in something if necessary. Thanks bunches!!

RockChalk, He does now, lol. Then later in the night he usually rolls over to his right side, but no more snoring.

I swear by the Ripsnore device. It's like a retainer, holds the lower jaw outward a bit. My husband snored like a freight train, but when he got the ripsnore thing, he was so quiet I thought he might have died! It literally saved my marriage!

You get two devices. Heat in hot water for a few minutes, then place in your mouth with lower jaw extended a little...not enough to hurt, just enough to keep the back of your mouth open. Let it cool, and that's it. He has used the same one for at least 5 years. Rinse it off every morning, store in the little case that comes with.

Trust me, it's worth 1000 times what they charge. BTW, I read about a dentist selling something very similar for ~$800.

@sugar22 Thanks for the info! I will look that up and see what I can find. My dentist's custom if $1,200!!! Holy cow, that's insane!!

@Jayhawk Girl My husband has been using Pure Sleep device...you put it in boiling water to mold it correctly to your bite/mouth. He has had his for close to 5 yrs now...at that time it was $60 for 2....and you didn't have to pay for it....you got a free 30 or 60 day trail and if it didn't work for you send back...but it worked really good for him and so cheap! I have no idea what they are charging now a days. There seems to be more options just like it out there also.

I didn't know what I was going to do...his snoring was SO LOUD and awful and he never stopped all night long!!! So I could never fall asleep and never stay asleep due to his snoring. If it ever stops working I would buy another device in a minute! Best money ever spent. Most of these devices come with money back refund if it doesn't work....I'd try one out for sure.

With that said I have TMJ and had to see a specialist to get a custom low jaw bite guard made for myself (almost $1300.00) thank goodness insurance covered it all. So I do understand your concern....this same specialist also did snoring devices custom made. So they do work for many people.

My dentist recommends using a dental rinse before bed if using a cpap. I believe they make rinses that are designed to keep your mouth moist. I use nasal pillow with my cpap and have not had dental issues. I do wear a "doctors night guard" to prevent dental damage from grinding my teeth. You can buy one at a drugstore. My dentist recommended that I try that brand before spending a fortune on him making me one. It works for me.

@conlt I should try that rinse. I also use the nasal pillows. I'm doing some homework so that I don't have to dump a bunch of money down the drain on an option other than the cpap. Thanks for your input!
