Horrible Cardiologist appointment

My life has been stressed over the last few months and I missed my 6 month check up with the cardiologist that I had seen for the last few years. i would not be able to see him until late September and I was not feeling well so I went to some who I have heard of.

Well she was among one of the rudest medical professional I have ever met.

She never examined me, or listened to my heart, all she went by was the blood pressure and my cardiogram. When I said something about my rapid heart her response was well what do you want you are close to 100 lbs overweight (not totally true btw).

She made me feel like a child who did something wrong, I was so upset by her words I totally forgot all my questions.

Tomorrow I will be making an appointment with the doctor I have seen for years.

I am so sorry this happened to you. It is very upsetting.

Do you think there is someplace you can report her?

Sometimes,there is a place online you can post a review and how you were treated.

Once this happened to me with an eye dr that took over my reg eye dr practice when he retired.

He was awful and when I got home I read his reviews that were all bad. I should have read them before I went and not after.

I even caught a bad eye infection from him

So sorry for your bad experience. I had a similar one years ago with a surgeon who was equally as rude and still remember it.

Doctor's are a dime a dozen in my neck of the woods, even though I am enrolled in an HMO we have plenty of doctors and specialists to choose from. I have cardiac issues myself and the cardiologist they hooked me up with after my first hospitalization was not my cup of tea. He was very hands on, but I could not understand him very well because he had a very heavy accent. I felt he wasn't listening to me and gave me very little support. He did offer to send me to an electrocardiologist, a female in the same office and I love her. She's young, smart and very up front about my options and the consequences of any procedures and meds. I choose. When I ask her what would she do if she were me and facing my problems she actually tells me what she would do. Ultimately it's my decision of course. Also, it seems like cardiac docs do not think you are serious about your cardiac outcomes if you are very much overweight.

@I am still oxox@Maltese momma @LOGO FAN @blackhole99 Why do we take this ****** from doctors? Nobody else gets away with treating their customers so shabbily. My parents felt whatever the doctor said was law.... me not so much. They wouldn't think of challenging him.

Why don't we look them in the eye and loudly proclaim him/her to be the rudest person you ever met, dramatically turn on your heel and walk out (get dressed first or you'll lose impact).

Quick rundown. Fell on cruise square dancing... tumbled over hubby and he over me. Sticky floor. Got up no problem. Tripped in theater, darkly lit with uneven steps. Recovered and no problem. Got home... one month later.. right hip down to my toes in pain beyond words. Went to Chiropractor (friend of my daugher) He applied heat.. worse thing he could have done. Pain intensived. Went to orthopedic practice.. saw nurse practioner... her exact words.. "how can you expect to recover... you are OLD." Cannot make these things up. Left that place and went to physical therapist. Two months later... old or not.. fully recovered.

I will say each extra POUND IS 6 POUNDS OF PRESSURE. I am aware of that and I am working on it for next time around.

I am sorry for your health problems and your encounter with this doctor. On the one hand, maybe the doctor felt you needed a reality check. She did it in the wrong way but she probably thought you were not getting the message.

You missed you doctor's appointment and now are upset because of your treatment. If you are so concerned about your health, you would have made it a point to get there.

If you are 100 lbs overweight, this is nothing to take lightly especially if you have heart problems. I think you should start working on getting yourself healthy. The weight is a lot of stress on your heart. I would think you would know that by now.

FYI, I have lost over 72 lbs in one year. I am over 70 years old and it was not easy but I was motivated to get healthy.

I am the first to admit the weight is a issue, but there is a way to say things, tact is not her strong suit.

I believe that when a person is overweight he/she is treated differently and looked down upon by so many. Most likely it is a form of discrimination. There is a new word for it: fat shaming. I see that more and more women (celebrities) are speaking out about it and calling the fat shamers out. I also think doctors are guilty of this.

There is a lot of bias against overweight people. Could you imagine the outrage a medical professional said "what do you expect, you are a drug addict?" They need to treat a person regardless of what factors contribute to the matter.

I am overweight and had a similar experience, I never went back. I am not going to pay you and be treated badly. Too many doctor s for that.

Doctors talking about weight isn't a new thing or a discriminatory practice. I've heard from lots of friends the old "I'm dieting because I have a doctor's appointment in a few weeks and I don't want the lecture."

It's the last thing it's still acceptable to bash people for. A few years ago it was LGBT and the overweight; now it's only the overweight who are left. People can't mouth off their real feelings about race, religion, ethnicity, orientation, disability (mental or physical) or in some instances, like this forum - politics - all those things they used to trash publicly.

But people can still bash the overweight under the guise of "concern for their health" or "they're costing normal people money!" Look at all the posters on these forums who literally never miss a chance to make cracks about the overweight or, even more fun, "fat people." It's been going on forever, it isn't recent. I once went to an ENT specialist in my 20s. In discussion, I mentioned drinking milk. He shot back that "you shouldn't be drinking milk - or eating any dairy." This had nothing to do with why I was seeing him (trust me, medically it didn't), it was just a snotty crack about my weight because he felt like it. I was, at the time, maaybe 20-25 lbs overweight, no more - and for the time I was considered tall. He'd never seen me before. He had no reason to be deliberately rude other than he enjoyed it.

Went back to my hospital office, told my co-workers (including MDs) and all agreed he was just an a** and that was very unprofessional.

I am sorry, a good doctor will work with you, give you advice and treat you. When I was 36 I went to a GYN recommended by a friend because I was having missed periods. He told me the problem was all in my weight and I left there crying. It took me 2 years to go to another GYN and she said I had a hormonal problem and treated me for 19 years. Once went of off of the hormones, 2 years ago I developed a severe mastitis. My GYN found that I was lactating, I had to have 2 separate prolactin levels done and finally was sent to an endocrinologist. At last after 19 years of issues, I was diagnosed with prolactin secreting micro-adenoma's. I have 2. They are small benign tumors on my pituitary which secrete prolactin. My endocrinologist told me that most likely, this started when I went to the first GYN. It made my body think I was pregnant, thus the messed up periods. That GYN who yelled at me died a couple of years ago and it brought back memories of how he made me feel when I had a problem. I walked away from his office untreated. Just forget this rude cardiologist and go back to yours who will treat you correctly.

Not everyone has a lot to choose from.

There's a hospital on every corner where I live, lots of competition makes for better doctors, but not in the smaller towns or rural areas.

I'm sorry this happened. Her lack of bedside manner made you defensive. Next time take a deep breath and have a conversation.

Sorry this happened to you. There are always some doctors like this. That's why it's great when you have a doctor that you feel comfortable with. I certainly would not return to her. At least you already have a doctor that you are happy with. I hope you feel better!
