Hi, I'm new to the boards. I had surgery on May 4th and everything went really well. After four days I could not move at all and had to have a second surgery due to a blood clot. That surgery left me unable to move the the lower half of my body. I have since regained almost all of my movement. I was told that I will walk again. I have been in an acute rehab and am now in a sub acute rehab and will most likely need out patient therapy after this and my question is has this happened to anyone and how long did your recovery take. I realize everyone is different but I'm just trying to get an idea. Also since all this I've become incontinit which has not been fun! I thank you all in advance for any help.

Welcome aboard @ebee827

I wish you the best for a speedy recovery. I have had cervical spine surgery. I had all of the vertebra in my neck replaced with artificial bone and metal. They replaced vertebra from the base of my skull all the way down to where the neck meets the top of the shoulders. I did not experience any problems after the surgery. Everything went smoothly, tg. The only thing I remember was my scalp was completely without feeling (numb) for several weeks and I had some stiffness and light pain in my neck for several weeks after surgery. Another thing that I noticed after years had passed was that my jaw has misaligned which can happen after this kind of surgery.

Please keep us posted with your progress.

I thank you all in advance for any help.

you don't say where they did the surgery...cervical or lumbar region..... I had surgery on C-5-6 in 1989, it went well.....had to wear the dumb collar for 3 months....now 27 years later I have pain again in the same place....not sure at 71 I want to do it all again...if the pain is bad enough I guess I would have it done again....

I had Cervical spine surgery (fusion) in 2003 (C3-C4) The pain was horrible and I would have done anything to make it go away. The surgery was so successful. I couldn't believe the pain was gone. I was also told that C6-C7 would cause a problem and a year and a half later I never hesitated and had that done also. No problem. So now when I have an exray done, it's so funny to see two metal plates and four screws to each plate.

Never regretted my decision.
