Miralax is not a stool softener, it is a laxative, big difference. Stool softeners can be used on a daily basis, Not sure about Miralax.I get Kirkland brand, can get it at Costco or on ebay. I usually get a bottle of 400 on ebay for about $9 or even less, just check listing for good exp date. Same as Colace for a fraction of the cost. Equate from Walmart is same thing too. But this price for 400 cant be beat. I have been taking them nightly for the last 7 years, 2 or 3 every night.

People are talking two different things here. Colace is a stool softener. It is not a laxative. It just softens hard stools to lessen the likelihood of impaction and so you don't have to strain at stool after surgery.

Miralax, prunes, etc are laxatives. Yes, they may also soften stool, but if you don't need an actual laxative, why take one? It's a known phenomenon that when people overuse laxatives (as opposed to using fiber and stool softeners), their body loses the ability to eliminate without using them. Not a good state to be in permanently.
