I also had a deviated septum. Had a nose job, got the septum fixed and my insurance paid 100%. If I had known that, I would have had it done years and years before.

No pain at all. I don't understand why the removal of the packing was painful for some. I didn't even know he was doing it until he said "all done".... He just pulled it out and it took a couple of seconds. I did have two black and blue eyes but no pain at all.

I'm glad everything turned out well and hope it stays that way.

deviated septum?

Hi all- sorry if this has been discussed before.

Does anyone here have experience with a deviated septum? I got hit in the face with a football when I was 10, and have had very severe congestion and allergies ever since. I went to an ear/nose/throat dr today, he said my septum was 80% deviated. I have to go for a CT scan to make sure there's nothing else going on before he does the surgery to fix it.

I guess I'd just like personal feedback on what you've done if you had a deviated septum, how bad it was, and if you did the surgery, what was your experience?

Thanks in advance

I have had surgery twice, both times for polyps but they did the septum as well, scars are just inside the nose. If that is the only fix you're having, I'd say it's a piece of cake. good luck

Hi everyone-

I got my septoplasty done about 9 days ago. Doc also performed a reduction of turbinates. I cannot tell you how amazed I am by the results. I had zero pain during the recovery. I have never been able to smell this well in my life. Also, my taste has greatly improved. I had no idea my issues were this severe.

I have to be careful of doing any lifting or physical activity for a while, I noticed at work this week when I was moving around a bit that my nose started throbbing, that was my body's way of telling me to knock it off. Other than that, I have had no issues.

Thank you again to everyone for their advice, it is much appreciated

I had a bad deviated septum, couldn't breathe much at all through my left nostril. I had surgery to fix it in 1998. I've had no problems with it since.

I had a deviated septum also. I went to the ent. This was 25 years ago. I had the septoplasty surgery, he told me that I needed it because as I get older I would have breathing problems.I regret it terribly. I now have so many problems with allergies, and I get 4 sinus infections a year. It actually made it worse. What a waste of time and money. I also have a sister in law who recently had her septoplasty too. Shes worse also. Hope this helps.

I hope this makes you guys laugh. I don't mean it in a bad way. My late husband had a deviated septum. He had an operation to correct it.

But he used to laugh his head off when I'd tell people he had a "deviated scro tum". He'd say, "Honey! There's a lot of difference".
