I have had many printers also, and I really did like the Canon. I need something easy for set up too. This time I am going to try wireless.

With the separate ink cartridges it doesn't hurt the pocket book as much.

Even though I was having them filled at Costco, it wasn't that cheap and they have gone up on their prices. So if this is what messed up my printer, what was I saving , right?

Looking for a new printer. My just stopped working the other day. It is a Canon, I only

paid $39.99 for it 2 years ago. So I guess it had a short life.. I have been reading reviews seems I am more confused now then when I started. I liked the Canon, as far as picture quality. Printing and scanning was fine too.

But maybe with this vast audience I can get a printer that will last longer. Would like to try WIFI this time. I have a laptop and an IPAD. Hopefully there is a printer that is easy to set up. I think they are a challenge to set up (for me anyway). I read that people set them up in minutes.

So any advice would be really helpful,

Thanks,

Nannycakes

I have an HP3510 printer, purchased about a year ago. I bought this one specifically for the wireless printing from all the Apple devices in our household....iPads, MacBooks, and my iMac. I ave not been sorry at all!! I did some research and found the HPs to be the best match for wireless printing with Apple. I paid $59.99 at Walmart; they had less expensive as well as more expensive models available, but this one does everything I need....printing, wireless printing, scanning, copying!

You need a printer that supports air printing. HP and Epson are 2 brands that will work with your iPad. Make sure you get a printer that states is supports printing for your iPad and other mobile devices.

Setting up a wireless printer is easy as long as you know your router's security number or passkey. People call the number by different terms or names. It's the WPA security number either set by default or chosen by you or the person who set up the router. If you don't know it, you won't be able to connect the printer to your wireless network.

I have an Apple I Pad, HP Laptop, and a Dell Desk top.

I have the desktop and the Hp connected to this printer now. But it is not wireless.

I wouldn't have a clue. TY

It depends on the router. Belkin now has a default passkey/security number assigned to each router. It's located on the bottom of the router. Linksys allows you to pick your own during the initial setup. It's then your responsibility to write it down or print out the screen.

If you don't know the security number, you can get into the router settings by typing a IP address into the address bar of your browser, look up the number, write it down or print out the page. You must know the router's name and password to get to the information. Go to your router manufacturer's website and find the specific instructions. It does vary depending on the brand.

Last be not least, you can start over. There is a reset button on each router. Press it and hold to reset back to the factory condition and start over.

I buy nothing buy Canon printers as I ran the route of almost every major brand. They have many models from which to choose and most have individual ink tanks, which are the only type I will ever buy.

Do a search and look at their models and I am sure there is one that will fill your needs and shop around and you can find very good prices.

I also would recommend the Canon brand. I know a lot of people don't like Lexmark, but I did well with that brand also.

Both of the printers that I currently have in service are Canons (my house is kind of big, so I have one upstairs and one downstairs). I have never had a complaint with either of them. Canon is a very good brand.

Two years seems like an awful short life for a printer, though. Do you just do basic home-level printing, or are you really putting it through heavy, more office-type, printing? Home printers probably have a little bit of limitation vs office printers.

Also, do you use generic or refilled cartridges? That will also shorten the life of a printer. I always use EOM printer cartridges and get many years out of my printers. I've actually never had one die on me - they seem to last many years until I decide to upgrade and I either sell or donate the previous ones.

HTH

I have an Epson workhorse 3540... Great price on Amazon, free shipping, easy returns, very reasonable cartridges , separate color cartridges so you only need to buy what you need. It is Air print and cloud print ready, so you can easily print wirelessly from Kindle and iPad. It is an all in one printer, scanner, copier and fax. My favorite printer EVER. It is not tiny, kind of tall but an attractive black color. I think I paid about $150. Amazon will pay for return shipping also. I have had several printers and this is the best...quiet and super fast.my first Epson, I bought it based on Amazon reviews. Even if you buy elsewhere, it is super helpful to read the reviews. Also, I have learned only to buy when the seller is Amazon or it is fulfilled by Amazon, even if other sellers may have a lower price . You just don't get the service. I had a bad experience with a product from a vendor, and she. I complained Amazon immediately gave me a full gift pending resolution, which never happened. Amazon wasn't at all involved in the sale either. They are the best

DH bought a Canon MG5520 All in One Printer for $80 on sale regular $150 from Staples. It's on sale now for $100. It's WiFi, has separate ink cartridges. It has Google Cloud Print which prints from many cloud services online such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Dropbox etc. using the free PPS App. It also has AirPrint so you can print from iPad, iPhone & iPod. I like that it's not as large as some of the All In One printers out there. We were using a Canon printer that we got free when we bought something & I really liked that printer buy DH wanted an All In One. He took that printer to work to use in his office instead of printing from a printer located in a different office at work.

I print a lot of recipes and everyday scanning of household properties. I wouldn't say I print and scan tons. I do have my ink refilled at Costco. I was wondering about that, but at the time it was working well. I thought it would slowly give me some kind of a sign, not just stop completely. You know like fading or blotting.

If that is what caused the problem, lesson learned.

Nannycakes

If you use windows, it's pretty easy. Just go to control panel, then to printers, it will show all your printers. You don't actually have to uninstall it. Just connect your new printer, using CDROM, or download, follow the on screen directions, and it will show up on up your printers page. Just click it when it shows, and make it your primary printer. You can easily just delete your old printer. To get rid of unnecessary stuff, go again to control panel, click install/uninstall programs, and scroll down till you find the software for your old printer drivers, then click uninstall. It 's easy. If you get stuck, click on help, enter a search for new printer, and Windows will tKe you through it, of course, on an iPad or Kindle, if you get an AirPrint, Cloud print enabled printer, it pretty much does it for you.
On 3/21/2014 nannycakes said:
So in order to set up my new printer, I will have to uninstall the one that no longer works.

My neighbor installed that one. Maybe another staples would stock more.

Maybe minor but I was looking for an sd slot and most of them don't have it. No big deal but it would be a bonus.
