Since I'm looking for a new computer, I was checking out when Microsoft was ending support for Windows 7. Their site has 1/13/15 as the date when mainstream support will end and 1/14/20 for when extended support will end. Could anyone explain to me what each type of support entails? Would having only extended support be an undesirable thing? Thanks.

Don't bother. Microsoft changes the date frequently. I think XP was extended multiple times. Chances are, you'll have a new computer by the time support ends.

Thanks both of you for answering. Since I'm shopping for a new desktop, I just wanted to be sure that I wouldn't be wasting my money if I happen to get one that has Windows 7.
