Thanks! I never try on the first day because of the stress on the system. I'll try later this week and let my parents know about it. My dad has an iPhone 4S, so I'm happy to read that 7.1 has improved performance on those models.

iPhone, iPad, and iPod users can now download the latest version of iOS 7. Expect slow download times today until traffic clears out somewhat.

Back your your device to iCloud or iTunes on your computer before downloading any update in case something wonky happens.

Mine didn't show up in Software Updates until I forced it to do a check, but I can't download it here because I'm not on a Wi-Fi network now. I'll wait until tomorrow, anyway, especially if I do it without docking.

Thanks for providing a notice here about the update, Chalk. I will download and install later this week. I like to see if others have any significant problems first, before I do it to my devices. Also to all who do the update, make sure to check your settings after the update is complete. I've found that updates reset some of the things I changed/configure in settings. For example, it automatically turns my Bluetooth on, which uses battery. Since I don't use this feature often, I keep this set to off position to conserve battery power. Best to check all of your settings of this nature after the update is complete.

Thanks for the thread, Chalk! I second the reminder to perform a complete backup before all updates.

I downloaded the new release earlier today on my iPad. I’ll update my iPhone in a few minutes.

Even though, as gidgetgoeshawaiian said, the time estimate first said 9 minutes, then said 1 hour, it actually took 16 minutes for the download and preparing update; then, 1 minute to verify update; about 9 minutes for the shutdown/installation/restart. A total of about 26 minutes from start to finish. (Note: the time required will vary depending upon a number of factors - I wanted to provide my experience as an example.)

As Lynnj mentioned, it did automatically turn Bluetooth on. So far, I’ve had no problems, all data/photos/videos/contacts/email/calendar entries/etc. appear intact.

Although I think the default factory setting has Bluetooth "on," prior to iOS 7 the updates didn't change it. It's beneficial (and doesn't hurt anything) to give a heads up, since not everyone uses Bluetooth and it can be an unnecessary drain on the battery.

Also, looking on apple website, seems some with iPhone 5s are having problems with the fingerprint identity feature since the update. Many posts in the iPhone help area about this. So far, this seems to be the only bug with the update. Others have made comments about how much faster their device has been since the update.
