Yes, turn your cellular (data) when you're at home or can use WiFi. I'm no expert but you don't want to waste using your data when you can use your WiFi at home.

Hi..I'm gonna test the cellular coverage on my iPad Air this weekend...We are heading out to our cabin where there is not internet, but we have great ATT coverage. So I thought I'd try the cellular on the iPad. There is a no auto renew choice for 1g for 3 mos for $25.00 which is more than enough for me as I will only use it on weekends and only for email and light surfing. My question is do I have to turn off Cellular when I'm at home or anywhere there is wifi? Do I turn off WIFI when I'm using the Cellular. Seeing that it says no auto renew will that choice come back when my 3 months are up?...Sorry for so many questions. Thanks..DW

I know with my cell phone when I do not need mobile data I turn it off. I use Wi-Fi at home. You should call AT&T about renewing your data plan.

Thanks for the replies..I really don't want to call ATT we are out of contract on both of our phones and they are working fine so I really don't want ATT to try to get us in contract again..not yet anyway...we don't have smartphones...I'll just sign up for the 3 mo plan its only 25 dollars and I'll see how long that lasts...I'd use it maybe 6 days a month...DW

I use ATT cellular on my ipad. I specifically do the plan through the ipad because I don't need service on it all the time. Mostly just if we're traveling or spending time at the lake.

The last time I added service to it was in December for a week long trip, I wanted to have internet, etc., while traveling in the car. I did the 3 month plan this time and it was due to expire yesterday. Just like all the other times I've added service, I got a "pop up" on my screen when I opened it up yesterday saying my service was ending and I could renew now or at a later date. The "no auto-renew" is accurate, it never renews without your approval unless you specifically sign up for the one that is auto renew.

In addition, if you do sign up for the auto renew, you can go into your account at any time and disable the auto renew and still have coverage until the date you would have renewed. I've never had to call to make any changes to my service, you can take care of it on the ipad itself.
