Window Cleaning Robot

I posted this question in the Home forum, but so far no answers.

So, wondering if anyone in the Electronics forum knows anything about the window cleaning robots.

Do they really clean without streaking and will they reach the corners of windows?

Some are very pricey, so if you have one, would you share your choice and let me know if you're happy with it?

I had never heard of this so I looked them up. There are all kinds and prices. I would be interested to hear when anybody gets one and what the results are as well. Window cleaning and me - this is something I just can't do much these days - very difficult. If this were truly an option, it would be wonderful! I would sure go for one if they really worked!

The NY Times recently did a review of these. They recommended EcoVacs Winbot Mini available at Amazon for $180 according to the article. I can't paste the review but try Wirecutter dot com. The review is there.

It seems to me that posters are allowed to ask questions about various products. Who knows if someone on these boards has bought or used one of these devices?

@timeless - I'd never even heard of a window cleaning robot, so it was news to me. I'm trying to figure out how the robot would climb vertically and not drop off!

Must be handheld or something. If you find out from anyone who has one, it will be interesting to hear.

I use the technique where you pick up your phone and call the window washer guy or gal. No stress, no mess.

I'm justifying the price because I figure to hire someone to come clean our windows inside and out will cost at least the price of one of these. ONE TIME.

So crossing my fingers, this will be cost-effective over time! LOL

I've been washing my own windows for 30+ years and now that I'm going to be 60 this year, this is my present to me.

If you buy one please let us know how it works out. I stopped washing the outside of my windows when I turned 70 which was last year. I just cant do it any longer but I love clean windows. I'd be very interested in a window robot to get them clean.

Professional window washers won't do a job here if it's less than a set number of windows. I don't have that many to clean so they go unwashed now. I need that robot...lol!

Thankfully, my window washer is my husband. He actually loves to wash windows. He washes the, inside and out a few times every year.

I live in a two story house, but luckily the window panes tilt in to make washing easier.

Has anyone ever tried washing their windows with their garden hose and a washing fluid you mix with the hose and just spray. The windows are suppose to dry clean and clear.

My windows crank out..so I can"t do the outsides. Had a professional guy 2 yrs. ago for $10 a panel just the outsides..I have a total of 33 windows....Oh long panels were $15 each..Called recently now he charges $22 a panel!..and he uses my water!..LOL

I started to say when it rains I hope it blows this way!..LOL

Professional anything is hard to come-by here..I asked a college kid for $10 a panel..he would only do the first floor!..My house is 3 stories!

Our plan for tomorrow is to try out the bot on our inside windows.

Happy to be getting help from our "geek" son that's into computers...

So, yeah.

I'll post his review on the easy part (inside).

We live in the country and have a lot of dirt outside to tend with because of harvest/wildfires.

So, I think I will spray off the outside windows first, and then use the bot.

Full review might take another week or two. A lot going on around here at home right now.

So hubby just came in and said with a grin, "I assume we're not sending the window bot back and I can get rid of the box?"

Me: "Yeah, we are not sending it back!"

Hubby: "I thought so when I saw the grin on your face. It's awesome!"

Son: Big smile...watched his dad and me use it on the easy to reach windows and then happily climbed on the roof to do the clerestory windows (wasps be damned). He said it's really good for places hard to clean.

Very happy with the mini bot I bought because it fit easily between the blinds inside.

Takes maybe five minutes to do half a window. Factoring in the cleaning of the window pad, etc. it became something that will need to be done in stages for our 22+ windows; inside and out.

I'm okay with that because my hands and arms don't hurt!

One downside... our windows are from 1993 and on the outside they have a sort of raised "flange" that is removable in order to replace the window panes. The bot was having some trouble at the bottom edge and I realized it needed a "lip" to ride along so I got out a ruler and held it along the bottom of the window so it got traction. It was doing fine then.

My mom lives in an RV with outside windows that are just a piece of glass with no surround. I'm interested in seeing how it works with those, too.

So, still have more work to do. We did about four hours of window work today. Taking off screens, etc.

Very happy with it and may decide to buy the larger one for outside only.

Well, I have 6'x4'8" windows in our family room. The mini did them with no problem inside. I liked that it was lightweight and easy to move.

I was surprised how well it did on the edges and corners. I think the reason for that is because of the micro-fiber pad that is on the bottom of the bot.

Living in the PNW, we all get a bit of mold at the corners, and it picked a lot of it up. I had to clean the pad a couple of times for each window because of that, but it only took a second or two.

As for the outside...

Since I live in a rural area with a farm directly in front and back of my house, I get a lot of crud. Webs, bird doo-doo, etc. Because I haven't cleaned the outside for about three years, I plan to use a product meant for window/house cleaning first to get the chunky gunk off and then follow up with the WinBot. Not because I think it can't handle the crud, but because I don't want to have to clean off the micro-fiber pad so often.(on the mini) If I had the larger bot, I may have chosen to go directly to the outside windows.

I plan to finish the outside soon and will leave more info when I have it.

So far, it's been fun to use and I'm happy with it.
