I think I remember reading on these forums about a way to keep the ink cartridges from drying out so quickly in ink jet printers. Does anyone remember what the tips were? Thanks so much!!

I always kept my printer turned off when not using it and out of the sun from a window.

Keep in mind, there's money to be made from ink suppliers for the ink to dry up.

If you don't print often then you can take the cartridge out of the printer and place it inside an airtight container along with a damp paper towel (away from the nozzle). Store that container in a cool dark place, away from heat and sun. Put the cartridge back into your printer when you need it.

If you print occasionally you should still print a test page at least once weekly to keep the ink flowing so the nozzle doesn't get clogged.

As an aside, when assessing the costs of printers and ink, the cost of the actual printer itself is secondary.

The real way to calculate cost is to check the actual cost of the replacement toner cartridges and how many copies each cartridge makes.

YouTube tutorials is a good place to start.

I've found that certain printer brands require more nozzle cleaning than others. When I owned an Epson, the ink would clog all the time. But I don't have that problem with Canon or HP Printers.

If I printed a lot, I would buy a eco printer.
