For those of you that are "about to expire" Drizella's thread from the other day; it is very easy to enroll your computer or laptop into the extended security updates for another year. In some cases this can be for free if you backup your files to the cloud or you could use 1,000 of your Microsoft rewards points and I believe the last option was a $30 fee.

Open: Settings

Windows Update and Security - the information will be on the far right of the page on how to enroll. If you don't see anything turn on "get the latest updates" and check back daily until it appears.

You do need to make sure your windows is up to date and you are running 22H2 version.

I've enrolled two of mine into the program with .no problems

I don't understand why it would be beneficial to keep using an older and about-to-expire version of Windows when a newer, more secure option is available to use. To me it makes more sense to use a newer device with better security, especially in this day and age.

ETA-

Technology gets old and outdated before you know it. There are valid reasons why it keeps changing, security issues are one big reason, and 'old' is usually around 5 years. Windows 11 came along to resolve the many security holes in Windows 10 and there were many.

I had to install a Dimmer Switch App. The screen was so bright I couldn't open my eyes to use it at night. I bought an HP Omni for under $500, but then I had to buy a new monitor because my 20 year old Dell monitor would not connect to new tower. Then grandkid had a heck of a time getting my 20 year old HP inkjet printer to work with 11. Finally have everything working, most likely just in time for Microsoft to roll out Windows 12 and tell me too bad, go buy a replacement.

These days, it seems to me, it's wasteful to spend a lot of money on a new computer especially since they get outdated so quickly. They've become disposable/recyclable devices that have to be replaced in order to be in a secure place today.

I think I'm done buying any more Windows devices. I've been very happy with a Chromebook-PLUS. It's everything I need, secure and I didn't break the bank.

This is one, of many examples, why I switched to Apple in 2013.

@gadgetgal613

Why would changing to Apple make any difference?
