Is this Facebook tracking settlement a scam?

I got this email. I seem to remember signing up for a settlement but it was so long ago I forgot:

You have received a Virtual Prepaid Mastercard® worth $40.67 as your Facebook Internet Tracking settlement payment. Please follow the directions below to redeem your payment. You can spend these funds online anywhere Mastercard is accepted or add to a digital wallet and use it with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay.

I don't want to have to click on it for more information. Shouldnt they send out real cards for people to use? Has anyone got a settlement? or do you think it is phony?

There IS a lawsuit that is quite old, and the payout is happening now; however, you should be receiving a check if you signed up for the suit. According to NBC Chicago (partial article) posted yesterday:

Did you receive a recent payment from a Facebook settlement? It actually stems from a case the started years ago -- all over the company's "Like" button.

According to a notice on the settlement website, the so-called "Internet Tracking" settlement, which started in 2022 but dates back as far as 2010, took effect on Feb. 24, 2025, with payment distribution slated to begin on April 10.

Users started receiving their checks Thursday.

If you search for Facebook Internet Tracking you will find info saying that it is indeed true. . .

If you chose the option of a prepaid card, then the E-mail is legit. According to Claim Depot:

Settlement payment options

Claimants selected from the following:

PayPal
Venmo
Virtual Prepaid Card
Zelle
Check mailed to address provided

Good luck. Around $40 is what was reported by recipients.

@Icegoddess. Payment doesn't necessarily have to be in the form of a check. The timeline seems about right. Try to use the card and see if it works, @geegerbee .

These things are always a scam. You get $4 and the lawyers get $4 million. You get a huge settlement for your state and the state sets up an agency to make tv ads about you shouldn't smoke, you should drink water, etc.

To me that's a scam and a crime. Like a lot of the stuff going on now.

@Sooner. It's not a scam unless you're promised something you don't get. Nobody expects to get rich off class-action lawsuits. We realize they just make lawyers rich(er). I won't even participate.

Firstly, there's always a settlement by the company at fault for millions less . Lawyers get rich . Customers harmed or affected mostly receive $4-$10 .

I rcvd 120 in my PayPal account from this settlement. So, no, it's not a scam.
