Check your Facebook Settings

Check your followers. People around the country are reporting that there are people following them that they don't care for. You can block them. If you don't, this can affect your Facebook feed/ algorithm. It appears that there was a Facebook effort to promote these people who are following you. I chose to delete all Meta apps yesterday since who knows what the next manipulation will be.

@chessylady , I've been blocking people all morning on TT. There was a Facebook on TT and when I blocked it , my FYP improved, but I feel like it's only a matter of time before Zuckerberg ruins the app. Till then I will continue to take out the trash.

I'm not sure what you mean by checking your Followers. I, long ago, changed my settings so that only my Friends could see my content. I actually took it one step further and only a subset of my Friends actually see most of my content. I have to change it using the little icon that looks like a silhouette of two people and then change it back once I'm done sharing with all my friends.

I'm not on Tik Tok or Instagram, so have no idea what that other acronym means. Facebook's algorithm apparently looks at who YOU interatct with. I rarely see posts from my Friends list since I mostly interact with people in Groups.

It may be that they are following you and you are also followiing them. Facebook's algorithms track who and what you like and also access youer friend's likes and dislikes. You will start getting different generated feeds on Facebook that may not reflect your real preferences. I don't want to wait around and see what's next on Zuckerberg's plans for his Meta platforms (Instagram and Messenger are his as well).

@chessyladyThe only people that can Follow me are on my Friend list. I'm not concerned with how FB decides what I see. I've got an app for that. I can go to any of my Friends pages if I want to see if I've missed something and I can go into my Groups and see the content there.

Yes, I know Instagram is owned by Meta, but I'm not on it.

Just for fun, Type "following me"in your facebook settings. You may be surprised at the number of people with strange names that are there. If nothing comes up, congratulations.

Because I am on so many group pages I can't limit my readers to only friends or it will defeat the purpose of the groups, but I changed my facebook program to Facebook Purity several years ago. It's easier to work thru and has a subset of programs that I use. There is a FBP page if you care to take a look at it.

I stand corrected. Those accounts belong to the office and not the person and so it switched over to the new individuals holding that office. I followed the office prior to this week. So disregard what I said below. 💕

What is Meta doing? Two people are suddenly on my following list and I can guarantee that I’ve never EVER followed them especially with those titles they just acquired. I didn’t bother to check if real or fake but I blocked. I haven’t checked IG yet. 😡

I have gotten "friend requests" from people who have been DEAD FOR YEARS...

(The only reason I even have a FB account is that the company I worked for required it.)

Yes, you can block any "followers" that you don't care to have follow you but, instead, I go to my privacy settings. There is a setting that allows or disallows followers and I have it set to not allow random people to follow me. I also have it set to where only my "friends" can see what I've posted.

Therefore, I don't have followers but I've noticed some of my FB Friends allow followers.

@shoptilyadropagain Is the followers for FB? I am in the settings now and I don't see the not allow random people to follow me. I do see where I have only friends can see what I post.

@Pecky Yes, it is a setting in FB. Of course, FB makes it extremely difficult to find where all these privacy settings are especially if you don't access them very often. I'm in the middle of a couple of things right now but when I get finished up I'll try to find where that is located and post it. Or, you could google it and it should bring up that information. OK...this should work and I did this using a laptop rather than my phone which I'm sure is slightly different.

1. Left click on your profile photo in the upper right hand side.

2. click on Settings & Privacy

3. click on Settings

4. On the left hand side, look for "Audience & Visibility". Click on Followers & Public content under that A&V section.

5. In the middle of the screem at the top is "Who Can Follow Me". Click on the arrow across from that on the right hand side.

6. A pop-up box appears. Click on the tiny circle to the left of FRIENDS.

7. Click on Save

HTH. I will probably not be on much at all the rest of the day but this should work if using a laptop.

I really use FB only in response to my sister's posts. That's pretty much it.

Question ...

Every time I sign on, there are tons of photos of "People You May Know".

I've never known ANY of them, so I've no idea how they ended up on my page .... how do I turn this off?
