Tv Choice Help Please

This is a lot to read- bypass, please, if you're not interested.

I've vacillated for months; I am so tired. I'm buying 2 TVs, a 50-55" for the bedroom and a 75-77" for the family room.

I want what we're used to- using our Verizon and AppleTV remotes. I need to purchase newer generations of AppleTV for 2 rooms. We have every channel Verizon offers, going to downgrade at some point.

I've read both LG and Samsung remotes and OS can be frustrating. Would I have to use their remotes?

Will I be able to use our Verizon remotes for cable viewing and AppleTV remote for streaming?

Now about the TVs...

I'd like to get an OLED for the larger TV. However, it may be cost-prohibitive.

Between Samsung and LG, maybe QLED for the larger 75-77" and LED LCD for the 50-55".

I don't know which brand is better:

family room has windows on the wall the TV would be on, 1 on each end of the TV. no other windows but it's on the level below the main level of a 4 level split and there is light from the main level.

I'd like viewing to be good from the sides.

Don't want to use a phone or anything else except a remote that has up/down channel scrolling, side-scrolling of future shows channels,, mute, pause, and numbers to type in channel, voice, fast forward, back,

Verizon remote has the above, Appletv has voice.

I want saturated color and to see characters when there are dark scenes.

Sound quality: I prefer front speakers

and just less frustrating situations with remote if Verizon can't be used,

and when turned on easy navigation, not having to keep clicking through items to remove them from the screen, just to get to my show,

and to have the last channel come on when the TV is turned on.

If anyone has Verizon:

Would I be able to use my Verizon remote on either brand and FORGO the brand's remote?

VERIZON remote has-

guide- which shows the listing of channels, times, shows, scrolling up/down, and going forward and back in time,

voice, menu, last channel, numbers, fast forward, back, input to get to AppleTV.

I just want a good TV, easy to use.

I'm going to most likely purchase from Costco because of their warranty and return policy; they're pretty good about going past the return period.

and with all of this, I need a new King Size Mattress, all this research is driving me batty.

If your Verizon and Apple remotes work on your current HDTVs they'll almost certainly work for the new ones. They may need to be reprogrammed or retrained for the new HDTVs but they should work the same.

An OLED HDTV is going to be a lot more expensive and maybe unnecessary given the quality of good LED sets these days. It's hard to buy a bad HDTV these days. They're all pretty good. My latest HDTV is a QLED and it's been great. It's a 65" TLC 65Q650G that I paid $348 for from Walmart.

Modern HDTVs are largely made like desktop computers with the "name" meaning very little. They're all made of components typically bought from other suppliers and slapped together. You may have a Sony motherboard with a Samsung screen and an Asus power supply in a set sold by LG. You can't go too far wrong with any modern HDTV. About the only HDTVs where every component is from the "name" are their flagship, top-of-the-line models. And even then they might opt for a panel or power supply from another brand.

I have Samsung tvs and don't have issues with the remotes. I have DirecTV-Internet and use that remote for for streaming apps, and 99.99% of things. Apple tv is one of the apps so I don't have to change remotes.

I think I used the remote that came with the tv twice this year.

Go into a store with salespeople who are experts and check out tvs. You might want to go to a store that specializes in tvs and check them out. Then go to Costco and buy the one you liked.

What brand of TV do you have now? If you're happy with them, why not just buy the same brand again, since you are familiar with them and know the two systems you have work with them? Just curious. Maybe I'm not understanding your question or the system that you have now.

We have all Samsung TVs, and personally, I wouldn't purchase any other brand. That being said, when we got our first one, I did watch a YouTube video on how to properly use the remote, as it is a bit different. It is the only remote we use. Samsung has all the major apps built in, so there is no need for a streaming stick or product. All we need is wi-fi, which we have Mediacom for that, and our Samsung TV/remote. Very simple.

It looks like most of your concern is about the ease and familiarity of using the current remotes. This is something all of us can appreciate. Would looking at it from that angle be the way to go?

I own a large OLED LG (evo C4 AI). It has the best picture on any TV I've seen. I'm a TV snob, too. I buy new TVs all the time. The viewing angle is not a problem even sitting at almost 180 degrees from it. Colors are vivid, bright and the black level is infinite so watching TV in a darker room has no negative effects on what you can see. I can't say enough about how good my OLED TV is. Bought it less than a year ago, expensive yes, but no regrets whatsoever.

I have Directv Stream using their set-top box w/remote and it's super easy to navigate using Directv's remote. No problem setting it to pair with the big TV.

We too have mostly Samsung tvs, the one in my 'office' is an off brand and it is fine but the picture quality is nowhere near the same. The tvs in the camper are all LG, the picture is fine there but not as good as the Samsungs-but that could be the age of them. We have a cable system and use their remotes, we seldom need to use the Samsung remote unless we are streaming, but it is easy to understand and use.

Maybe go to BestBuy and talk with sales people there. They are very helpful and knowledgeable at my store, and I am low tech. All of my TV's were purchased there at various times. I have Element, LG, and TCL brands. I use Roku sticks and their remotes are very simple, even for my husband who is non-tech and doesn't own a smart phone.

That's a terrible thing to do. Get free advice from a business then go to a competitor and buy a TV. Shame on you.

I like to read what CNET dot com says about electronics. They seem to give honest and open reviews and provide info that is easy to understand. I recommend checking them out. Look for this bit of info on TVs in a google search:

Also I see QVC TSV Is some kind id Samsung electronics this coming Sunday January 5th.

Even if you dont buy the TV from QVC, there is bound to be a load of information that might answer your questions if it turns out to be a TV. Check out the program guide for convenieht time. Warning though you may want to check out the earlier shows rather than later one as I remember them selling out of certain sizes.

Being in time to receive for the Super Bowl, i feel certain it will be televisions that is the TSV.

@skittles2 we have all samsung led smart tv sets we have dish network as our provider with the hopper 3 and 1 joey

we use our dish remote for most of our programming and watching however we have to use the samsung remote when we want to stream or watch either of our dvd players and it is all pretty simple for us after first reading all the instructions

I've found at Best Buy that sales people vary considerably in their product knowledge. Some are quite knowledgeable; some not so much. It likely varies according to their training. Some may be great in electronics and others great in appliances - depends how experienced a salesperson is and what training he or she has had in the type of product you're interested in and which salesperson you get. Generally TV salespeople are in the TV area and appliance people are in that area, but NOT ALWAYS.

In the last year or so, I purchased two LG 65" TVs. Rather than a mass marketer like Best Buy, I chose to purchase these TVs from an experienced, local merchant who has been in business many, many years. Their prices were very close to Best Buy and other chains - they pretty well have to be to remain competitive. No one will buy a TV that's $1,000 at one location and $500 at another. Since I was buying quite expensive TVs, I wanted to make sure I purchased them from someone who was knowledgeable and could answer future questions and be able to solve probIems I might have in the future.

Retail store salespeople are often encouraged to push products that the store has a surplus of. If they have ten of one model of HDTV in stock and only one of another model, they'll be encouraged to sell more of the one they have ten of. And you can't trust your eyes when it comes to buying a TV as the settings can be tweaked to make a bad set look better than a better set. TV buyers tend to favor the brighter set, so if you lower the brightness on one set and raise it on another, the one that's brighter will sell more. "I can't believe how much better that set looks!" You're right. You can't believe it.

It's truly hard to buy a bad HDTV these days. They're all good. Are some better than others? Sure. But none of them are truly bad and for most users watching most programming, you won't notice a day-to-day difference. Most of, nearly all of the 'upgrades' are largely unnoticeable in normal use. Gamers love a high refresh rate, but can they truly see a difference between a 120 hz and a 480 hz set? Not according to the experts who study such things. And even the absolute best, most feature-loaded set in the universe, can only show the image that's put into it. If you're provider only provides a standard HD signal at 60 hz, that's what your TV will show.

The TSV is a good price, but this is a 2024 model, I think the 2025s start coming out in the spring. I don't buy tvs often, I'm passing on the TSV as I want the newest tv I can buy. I don't understand what a OLED and mini OLED means. Also 120 refresher rate is more money than the 60 but will you really notice the difference? Maybe someone can dumb this down for me and tell me the best affordable tv I can buy (less than $800 for a 55" tv).

Mini OLEDs are found in small devices such as watches and cameras whereas OLEDs are used in large TV screens.

Higher refresher rates do matter if you watch fast action shows, sports for instance, or if you are a gamer. Otherwise 60 hz will do just fine and the difference won't be significantly noticable.

I apologize for not responding until now. I don't like asking for help and then not responding and acknowledging the time posters take to reply.

I have a few serious medical issues and they decided to start the New Year off by letting me know I need to keep them in mind🙄

And our street, just a few houses, has a stray cat. I've taken him inside during this awful cold and snow.

I won't have him trying to survive in this mess. I live in the Washington DC area, within Maryland's border, and this storm is in the top 5 worst storms for our region.

I have to tell each of you,

WOW! Your responses went above and beyond! I've learned more from each of you than my weeks, months, actually, of researching.

It's always better to hear from people who have experience with what you're interested in and don't have a vested interest in the Brand.

I'll peruse every reply again and use them for reference to narrow it down. Actually, I've saved this thread, so much great info.

What each of you has done is make things easier for me and freed up hours of research each day, comparing is a mental drain and I get obsessive,

Wait until I finally get started on the king mattress!

That's part of my problem, doing multiple research at the same time, takes me down the rabbit hole, through the maze of unending deadends.

This , it's all happening at once.

2 TV's, 2 Mattress, 3 bedframes, Living & Family room furniture, Sunroom HVAC and furniture,

3 toilets were purchased in '22, 2 of which are flooding, so we're replacing all 3 with Pressure Assist toilets, yeah that research is not fun,

having the outside of my house renovated from a storm, including tearing down and rebuilding the chimney, well....I'll stop there.🙄

I've had 3 Sony TV's since 2005, the remotes are easy too, not too many buttons on them. I will continue to buy them if I can.
