Might Need A New Compuiter Any Thoughts On An All In One Desk Top

I love my computer but it is 5 yrs old and getting pretty slow etc. I really don't want windows 8 or 8 1/5. I wonder when windows 9 will be available. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Windows 7 is still being sold through OEM (direct PC manufacturers). In fact Windows 7 is so popular that HP has begun loading it on their new PCs.

I recently bought 2 Win 7 PCs after it was retired. The OS is good until 2020.

You may want to look at the Dell, Toshiba, HP, etc web sites.

Rumor is that Windows 9 should be out in time for the 2014 Holiday season.

I have a Dell desktop that I got last year. I paid extra for them to load Windows 7 on it instead of the Windows 8 that was standard.

I think that the next time I need a computer I'm going to go with a laptop. I am getting tired of being tied to one spot in the house with the desktop.

When my home pc quit I got a 17" laptop. Love it and will not go back to a regular computer. It takes so much less space. I now have it in the kitchen instead of the office and I never use the office anymore.

I probably will do the same if my all in one HP quits at work.

It's also a lot better to haul to a repairman if needed.

17" is plenty big for me. BTW, I got a Toshiba.

I don't have a recommendation on a brand of PC, but I'd like to echo what someone else said about laptop vs. desktop. I bought a used laptop from my brother to replace my old desktop, and I love it! Also, from what I've recently read, desktops are going by the wayside.

I'm with you. I love laptops and have several. No more desktops for me. I don't know why, but they never seemed to last more than two years. But I have laptops as old as 7 years now that work perfectly well. I even have one that is hooked up to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, on my desk that i use every day.

I have Toshiba, Sony, and Lenovo laptops and love all of them. Great brands. Mine are all in the 15-16" range. I actually got my Sony VAIO when Win8 was coming out because I wanted to have one more Win7 computer before they stopped being available, AND I had always wanted a Sony.

The only thing with laptops is to make sure they always have good air circulation when in use. Over-heating is something to avoid like the plague. I use all of mine on laptops stands. I have 5 of my laptops in service around my house and the only reason the other one isn't (my old Dell) is that it's Win XP and it became less than compatible with my higher security home network. I had purchased a newer router, several years ago, and the XP computer seemed to keep getting knocked offline and I'd have to restart it a lot. Still a workable computer, though.

I have two Dell computers. A desktop and a laptop. I a going to say I am enjoying my tablets a lot more than my computers. Apps are much easier to work with than some horrible software. I am currently having a problem with Windows 7, and Turbo Tax. TT as they call, it is some of the worst software on the planet. I will probably have to re-install Windows. Make sure you have backup of all your data. I do not like all in one. It is just a laptop on a stand.. You either buy a laptop or a desktop.

I would buy a Toshiba laptop. You can look at Best Buy online. I would look for one with great customer reviews and a CD/DVD burner.

I would not buy a Sony. The company is selling off their computer business.

I have a iMac, Macbook pro and an iPad. I'm one of the rare one who uses my desktop the most. I have my desktop in the main living room and I know that's one of the reasons. If I was stuck in an office or something similar, I probably wouldn't use the it as much. I prefer the desktop because of the large 27" screen.

We have an iMac with a 27" screen. We love it. We also have an iPad that my SO uses. I'm considering (haven't made a final decision) replacing the iMac with a Mac Mini and a separate display. The iMac is heavy. When I had to have the hard drive replaced under the free replacement program, I had to lug the entire unit. If I'd have had a Mac Mini, that's the only thing I would have had to transport. And it is much, much lighter.

Before the iMac, I had an old PowerBook G4. It worked great for 6 years before it had power problems. It never left my desk. I had to remember about "exercising" the battery to keep it fresh. I really didn't do it as much as I should have, because I didn't take it off the cord, and that probably led to the eventual power problems. I like the large screen on the iMac. It gives me flexibility that I didn't have with the smaller screen laptop.

I had a Dell desktop for years, then switched to an iMac (desktop - all in one). It is the best. Besides being really good-looking - the screen resolution is beautiful and there are never any viruses. It is more expensive - but the price tag includes everything. I now have two iMacs and an older Apple laptop - no complaints for any of them.

I've got a MAC Mini (around $600) and a low cost 24"" screen. Does everything I need to do and no issues. MAC OS X very user friendly.

Depending on how you use a computer, a Google Chromebook/Chromebox may be a good alternative for you. There's no risk of malware/viruses. They update automatically and you have to do nothing. They're pretty affordable these days starting at $179 for the newest Asus Chromebox (desktop replacement http://promos.asus.com/us/chrome-os/chromebox/) or $199 for the eleven inch Asus Chromebook (laptop replacement.) They work from Google's Chrome apps rather than onboard software so you need a good internet connection. It's a pretty good alternative for many computer users.

We have an HPdesktop that is at least 10 years old - no kidding - and my DH uses it everyday still. He has been thinking about getting an all in one but we took our old computer to a repair man due to it being very slow and he cleaned up a lot of stuff from it and now it is running like a pup again - so for only $300 we have our old computer running like new. Before I would run out to buy a new computer I would definitely have the old one gone over to see if you can make it run better for only a few hundred dollars. We also have a Dell laptop that has windows 7 - and I have an android tablet, but DH still prefers his old HP desktop.

I replaced my old iMac a year ago with the Mac Mini and a separate 27" display and am very pleased with my decision. I have owned several Mac all-in-ones through the years. The iMac is a sweet machine, but I decided to go with the Mac Mini so that I could upgrade the CPU without the added expense of replacing the monitor.
