My BOSE cd player has died and they are no longer manufacturing them. Any suggestions for a simple CD player under $100? Yes I still listen to my CD's!!

amazon has many dvd cd players a lot cheaper than 100

Off topic, but I hope you and John are doing well.

Over time, I got to know John from his interesting posts. As a former Bell compatriot, I appreciated his take on a number of things. His devotion to his family, to his health and to his sport were quite obvious.

Just commiserating, The Bose CD players have a fairly short life span -- and it is sad that Bose neither stands behind this fairly expensive item or, at any price, repairs it. I think they sold us a load of .... junk. So, when it comes to buying any Bose product, Buyer Beware. Not a problem for me as I will never buy another Bose product despite the fact that I own three Bose radios, one on each floor of my home. Their arrogant attitude when I inquired about repair confirmed that decision. Good luck on finding a good replacement!

i have a number of BOSE CD players and LOVE them. i will be sad when they ultimately die and cannot be replaced.

that being said, i think it is an excellent product. my oldest bose is probably 20+ years old and still going strong. that is why i purchased others. those are at least 10+ years old. have not had one bit of trouble with any of them and definitely got my moneys worth. a few i bought directly from bose and a few from qvc/hsn.

I bought the Bose cd player the very last time it was a TSV. Just wondering how long you had yours before it died, as I still listen to cds too.

Walmart still has some decent cd players.🌸

I'm pretty confident that Bose didn't make their CD drives. They would buy them from an OEM, likely Chinese, and add them to their radio. If you can get inside the Bose unit and closely examine the CD drive you'd likely find a marker/tag/label somewhere indicating who made it. You might then be able to find a replacement for just the CD drive. The OEM makers tend to sell things like disc drives very cheaply in large quantities. Alibaba has DVD drives for around $4 each if bought in lots of a thousand or more. If you could identify the OEM CD drive maker and got lucky, you might be able to find a replacement for the drive. Assuming any still exist which they may not, which would explain why Bose wasn't servicing them any longer.

Do you need speakers built in with it or one with bluetooth connectivity for separate speakers?

They come both ways.

Emerson makes a boombox style CD player for less than $100.

It's funny you say if you can look inside to see who made the cd drive because I actually have one I opened in its box lol. This was the Bose unit I bought several years ago. However, it stopped accepting cds after only 3 years of use.

I took the screws off the casing to see if I could locate what was wrong, but of course I could tell. I did keep it though, thinking I might be able to take it to a repairman and get fixed. But, I bought the last Bose TSV that was offered by the Q. I also got the Bluetooth device to go with it.

I've still considered taking my other one in hopes that it can be fixed. But, I wonder if anyone in my small town Could even do it and if it would be affordable??

The last Bose item I bought from QVC was the Sound Flex Speaker. I got it just before last summer and probably only used it 10 times, if that. The problem I'm having with it is the charge. It was described as once fully charged, it will play music 8 hours. I'm LUCKY to get 3 hours of use before I have to plug it back up.

This has really left me disappointed in Bose.😔

There's a YouTube channel I watch called "Tronicsfix" hosted by Steve Porter. He mostly fixes videogame consoles but many of them have CD drives. His website (also called Tronicsfix) has a Contact Us link on the site. If he got multiple emails from people with this issue, he might make a troubleshooting/repair video for the Bose disc drives. It would just take a few minutes for those with this issue to drop him an email asking if he'd be interested in trying to fix one. It could be something very simple to fix. I don't know if there's a Bose community online anywhere, but if there is, a group email might get him interested. It's something to consider.
