My house seems to be littered with both kinds of cables. Family and friends need charging at times. Other than the length of the charge due to W, never seen a difference.

Since your iPad is an older, used, third party purchase, I would question the port first. Can you still return it? Ports can be damaged.

I am going to return all of my less expensive generic cables I have been using to charge my Apple devices.

I believe that these are damaging my charging ports! The "plug" part seems to be thinner and becomes bent or narrowed to the point that they are difficult to attach. Then, because they are bent, they re-set the port to the point that the port becomes damaged.

From now on...I'm only going to use Apple chargers and cords. Yes, these are 4 times more expensive.

But using a brand new (generation 9) iPad from Amazon and it is already acting very "finicky " about accepting the charge cord (only 1month old!)

I don't have Apple devices, only Samsung, but always use the cables that come with the device. I see too many instances of recalls in overheating issues and don't want to rely on the cheaper versions. Totally agree with you, @LTT1 , sometimes you don't want to go with cheaper.

Didn't your new iPad come with an Apple cord? Why not use that one?

If you're talking about cheap cords from stores like 5 Below or Big Lots I agree with you.

But there are decent brands of cords like Anker.

The cable is short.

The charger outlet accommodates only 1 device at a time. I use both iPad and iPhone in the same location so for $44 I ordered an Apple charging cube and an Apple cable to go with it. All the rest are going to be returned if new or trashed if older!

The most common issue with charging points on iPads and iPhones is some dust or lint getting caught up into the port. I had the problem with my cords not connecting correctly and learned about this issue after googling it. There are a lot of ways to resolve it but I took one of my interdental brushes and used it to clear lint out of the port on my iPad. Worked perfectly after that. It might be the same issue

I recently bought this charging cord for my iPad mini after the second OEM cord I've had started cutting in and out. I've had it for a couple of months now and couldn't be happier. It is the Amazon brand BUT is Apple certified. It is made thicker and better than the Apple cords imo. Now...if it starts causing problems in a few months, I may have to eat crow...lol...but at least for now, I am satisfied with it.

If a person buys a cord with the MFI certification, you should have no issues. MFI stands for "made for iphone/ipad/ipod." If a cord has the MFI certification, it has passed Apple's test for quality. It is a certification FROM Apple. Here is the exact explanation along with what the certification looks like. It is what is on the cable I bought.
