Wi-Fi Extender I bought

Thought I would get a better signal in my bedroom where it's far from my router so I bought an extender.

Plugged it into the wall, turned it on and then the written instructions said to connect it to my home network by registering my router on their network so that I can get the thing to connect to my network....NO! I sent it back.

Macard is the brand on Amazon. Can't believe people gave it such good reviews.

I had so many problems with my router,it was in the basement,bought a extender, this went on for 7 yrs. , my lap top is upstairs,comcast was here time ,and time finally last yr,they moved my router up stairs,not a single problem since that day!!

There's not very many places in my house where I can move my router to. The one thing I did was elevate the router a bit and that helped but not really enough to solve the problem with the weak signal. I ended up buying a different extender and it should be here tomorrow.

When it was in the basement, i had trash cans,and paint cans stacked up,to get router higher,did not work.

I'm glad we don't have problems with ours. DH has an extender he uses to pick up Internet in the shed in the backyard.

I wouldn't think it would work so good in the basement. Always thought it was best placed in central part of the house. DH has ours in the living room with the larger TV, stereo etc.

I would look into a mesh system. Those seem to work better than an extender. Quite a few people that I know went to a mesh system (myself included) when the extender didn't work. I'm sure that if you go to someplace like Best Buy, they can explain how it works. They will, also, price match if you find the same item cheaper at places like Amazon.

You don't input your network into theirs. You find the name of the device on your list of networks and click on it. Input the info they give you then add your network. It's pretty standard instructions for adding things to your network.

Maybe you bought a different one but I looked at the manual online and it didn't ask for that.

I'm not the computer person in our family, so I'm a little clueless (I don't know the particulars).... but we got the Netgear Orbi Mesh WIFI system from Amazon, it helped with our bad reception..

You didn't set it up correctly. You must connect the extender to your router which includes the router's name and password. FYI, never have a router in the basement.

My router has always been in the family room on the lower level which is an open concept. It works throughout the entire home of three floors perfectly. Perhaps with open stairs like mine, it can be done!

Just because you've always done something doesn't make it right or the best option. Routers, especially wireless routers, should be in the center of the house or as close to center as possible. The more walls and floors the signal must travel through, the weaker the signal.

I bought another extender and got it to work. The brand is TP-Link and it was less expensive than the other one (Macard) I returned. Finally got a better signal in the far bedroom where my TV kept losing connection. Now it's fine.

@SilleeMee TP-Link Kasa is the bee's knees. We use that brand exclusively for all our smart home devices. We have plugs, switches, an outdoor plug, and our mesh router system is that brand. The set-up and app are so easy to do/use, and they all work flawlessly through the app or through our Google listening devices. Glad you found something to work!

It IS located in the center of the house and the signals travel up through open stairwells to all three floors (if you read my post you would have understood that). It works beautifully, TYVM.
