One more MacBook Air question

Your mac book should still be suported by apple until at least 2024 and relevant until 2027.

Can someone tell me what being relevant until 2027 means when it comes to my MacBook Air.

I found a computer store that can put a new battery in my laptop...I gave him the necessary information about the laptop so when the time came he could order a new battery...the above was his response to me.

means yr laptop is approaching end of it's use, you should call apple help to clarify this

If you keep the updates current, your macbook should work well through at least that date.

However, I wouldn't go by that. My Apple laptop is 11 years old and still works like new. I install all the updates, use malwarebytes, and do whatever is necessary to maintain it.

@Mom2Dogs Can you ask him what he meant? You don"t say whether his response was in an email or verbally but I would ask him since he said it. He's the only one to really know what his definition of "relevant" is. I would also google the term as related to computer and see what comes up.

@Jk9 and anyone else interested below is the response I received about my macbook air.

.....macOS 12 Monterey is the last major macOS version for a 2017 MacBook Air. macOS 13 Ventura requires a 2018 model.

It will probably still get another year of security fixes, maybe 2, no way to be 100% sure.

After that, the relevance will depend on your usage. By 2026 or so., it will be 9 years old, more or less. So considering a newer model would not be out of the question.

For older laptops and likewise iPhones the software updates are no longer able to be done so you can still use the equipment but you won't have the most recent software on your apple products. I believe it's apples way of giving a lifetime to a unit so that you have to upgrade at some point. I had this happen with an iPhone.

@Mom2Dogs Thanks for the post. I researched computer "relevance" and basically there are references to the applicability and usability of the information and data available to the device. It seems that older devices aren't relevant to accessing and using more advanced forms of information and technology.

As long as you can get security updates, don't worry about it. While I like the latest and greatest, I found Apple computers don't become obsolete as quickly as Windows machines. No computers become obsolete as fast as they did in the early days of personal computers. Think Windows 95, 98, ME, XP, etc. were all released within a short period of time. Windows 7 was my favorite and I held on to it until I Switched to Apple.
