Question for Apple iMac users - need advice

We recently had to do a routine software update and since then, the MSN page has been messed up. Meaning, the top part which has the pictures which I call "sliders" are huge and occasionally a big "M" for MSN will show up there. We figured this was a glitch which occurred when the software update was done and would be addressed by them. However, it's been several days and it's still the same.

Any other Apple IMac users experience this? If so, what did you do to fix it?? We don't want to have to do anything major like deleting and re-installing a bunch of things.

Any suggestions for something simple??? I am not tech savy at all and DH does not really use this computer as it is primarily mine.

I just checked and mine looks normal. Did you restart? Or do a hard restart?

I also clear my cookies, cache, and history every week.

If that is when the MSN issue happened, it would help if you advised which software you updated. May be connected, maybe not.

After updating & upgrading it's a good idea to run Disk Utility First Aid then restarting to get rid of the dust bunnies old software leaves behind. Was this done?

Why not if it's going to solve your issue?

In your case, the only deleting & reinstalling is MSN if it comes to that. Sometimes apps get corrupted & you have no alternative but to delete & reinstall along w/trashing its preferences.

I'm not knowledgeable about deleting and re-installing things and I'm afraid I will mess things up worse! I don't even know what "Disk Utility First Aid" is????

However, whatever was going on with the MSN issue, seems to have resolved. At least for now!

I appreciate your replying to my post and I know from past posts when I see your name, that you really are knowledgable about things relating to Apple and Imac issues.

It's a utility to help repair any problems. You find it under Applications. Open Apps, find Disk Doctor and open it.

I'm glad it's resolved! Just in case it reoccurs, though...

As @Mz iMac mentioned, the application is called "Disk Utility" and you'll find it if you'll open "Finder" and then click on "Applications", then open your "Utilities" folder and click on "Disk Utility".

It's easy to use and sometimes can assist in clearing up random glitches or improving performance.

Regarding the issue you had, it sounds more like a browser problem when the browser launched to display the MSN home page? Is that correct?

You didn't mention which browser you use, but in general:

many browser problems can be resolved by making sure you have the latest version (if you don't, then update it);

or deleting all cookies/cache/history/website data, closing the browser and relaunching (which you did);

or resetting the browser;

or deleting the browser completely and then reinstalling it.

Keep a record of your browser bookmarks/favorites and your preferred settings to make the reset or a reinstall faster and easier.
