I see QVC has the Wave radio "back in stock" for $499. I hope people realize this is being discontinued by BOSE. They were on sale for $299 both QVC and HSN before xmass. THese must be the returns....

Sorry. BOSE is NOT discontinuing the Wave 4. $499 is the retail pricing for a Bose.

These units are shipped directly from Bose, not the Q or HSN. They are often sold out during the holidays on the Bose website. Customer returns go to Bose.

I own 3. I picked up my 3rd unit on HSN Black Friday for $299 + Rakuten cash back.

@Snowpuppy If this is the same Bose IV that was the TSV a couple months ago than it has been discontinued.

Every presentation that day kept beating over our heads that this unit was no longer going to be made because Bose could no longer get parts to make CD players.

"Get it now or get it never" was the selling point that day.

I have mentioned Bose many times on this forum. Been an Audiophile since I was 14 years old. I have listened to hundreds of different sound systems since the 1950's, also owned many of them.

I listened to several different Bose systems bought by co-workers and friends. A few of them think they are great, and hearing is afterall, subjective. To me they sounded like a radio I wouldn't pay over $50 to own.

They sell their name and I think the speakers they made years ago, advanced their name more than these little radio/CD units. The ones I saw had few, if any, sound adjustments to work with also. One co-workers had only a Left/Right Balance adjustment. And with a unit, what 20" wide, how much can that change the overall sound.

For those that are happy and willing to pay $300-$400-$500 for them, enjoy.

I own a BOSE which died. I called in December to see if it could be repaired. The tech on the phone told me NO because the wave radios were being discontinued.
I was offered a trade in: the latest make for $299, just what QVC and HSN were seling them for, I said No Thanks. I'll try something else to play my CD's.

They say the reason they're being discontinued is because they can no longer get the parts to manufacture or repair the CD players. Nobody wants CD players anymore. This radio is a technological dinosaur with no wireless Bluetooth and the poor radio .available to us. I wish I had my money back that I spent on this thing.

You are incorrect. This past Friday, January 13, HSN presented the Bose Wave 4.. Bobby Ray Carter and Aaron Berger, presented it in the afternoon, and Adam Freeman and Aaron Berger, presented it that night. They offered it at $309.99 witth free shipping and 5 flex pay. Many, many, many time during the presentations the hosts stated the following: THIS BOSE MODEL IS BEING DISCONTINUED AND ONCE WE SELL OUT, WE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO GET IT AGAIN. You can also go online and you will find that this model is being discontinued.

I wanted to buy one years ago, but way too many bad reviews about it, especially the CD player.

I didnt see this thread abt BOSE & unwittingly started a new thread titled:

Thank goodness I found this thread also, AND posted a request on my other thread. There, @Kachina624 helped me with advice abt this Bose & price

Now I'm saving $310 plus. I really dont like the info I'm reading about this Bose.

I guess I "missed the boat," holding off all these years, waiting & waiting for a better price for a good Bose

@millieshops The problem, they say, is they can't get parts to manufacture and repair the CD players, so if yours quits working, it won't be repairable. I find a CD player that only plays one CD to be more annoying than enjoyable. I could load 3 or 5 on my earlier CD players. I also don't like that this Bose has no controls on the radio so you have to get the remote to operate anything on it.

@millieshops I don't know. You probably can't buy a CD player as the impossibility of getting parts will apply to all manufacturers. Guess I'll keep my 2003 car just for the CD and cassette players it has. Now everybody seems to be streaming music, along with everything else.

Sound, like beauty, is in the ears of the listener. There is no better way to find the right sound for you, than listening to it yourself. And! Listen to the music you know when it sounds good.

I used to bring my own 8 track/CD or whatever was the latest at the time, and listen to it on different sound systems and speakers. You have to allow for the environmental differences, but you know which sounds better to you, regardless of that.

If you want YOUR best sound for your $$$, ? It pays to listen to music you like, and are familiar with its sound. Work? Yes, but as I said, sound is subjective! Hope you find the best for your ears.

@Kachina624 The world we live in is changing so much and so fast that keeping up requires more time, effort and money than I'm now willing to try to manage. I don't stream for any reason now, but I realize I could for some purposes but not for the music I listen to most often. Will cross that bridge when the Bose gives up.

I bought the Bose for $299 two years ago and it died after one week. I took a refund instead of a replacement.

Good quality sound is something I'll pay big bucks for. I also prefer CDs to streaming. In November I spent a lot of time trying to find something. Here's what I learned:

ALL manufacturers are having problems with obtaining quality CD players. I wanted something smallish and focused in on a Denon at about $500, but it also had CD issues. The only answer is to return to separate components where you only have to replace the CD player when it fails. But they take up too much space in my tiny house.

No solution yet.

i have several BOSE units and a couple that are 18+ years old. a few that are between 5-10 years old. all of them are going strong, including the CD players. they were all purchased via QVC or HSN. i do still play CDs and LOVE the sound that these units provide, especially when i have guests/parties. i have one that came with an amazon echo attachment which is quite convenient also.

still a happy BOSE customer.

@sunshine45 Your older Bose units were made when quality CD parts were available. Many of us have old kitchen appliances still working perfectly, but we won't get the same product life when we replace them.

I respect Bose for discontinuing rather than sell an inferior product.

@millieshops You're exactly right, too many changes. I subscribe to Amazon Music (there are others too) where I think they just may have every piece of music ever recorded so no matter your taste, there's much that will please you.

@hckynutjohn Years ago I used to go with my husband as he tried to decide which stereo system to buy. At that point I really didn't know enough about myself (or maybe about music) so that I could have answered all the questions salesmen were asking before they seated us in a sound chamber to listen and choose. I learned I was more concerned about how all that equipment was going to look in the living room than he was although once everything was set up at home, I learned to identify the kind of sound I like.
