A good friend of mine had her Apple ID password changed on her iPhone. How that happened is still a mystery. After futile attempts to fix the problem, she called and asked me to help. We contacted Apple Care and they were very helpful except for one problem. The onscreen keyboard would not go away no matter what we tried to do. The choice of "forgot password" was located behind the onscreen keyboard and we could not get to it. How the change password option finally became visible is a mystery to me. I don't own an iPad and rarely use my phone for anything so my question is, how do you get rid of the onscreen keyboard when you won't want to use it? She has an iPhone 6 and a newer iPad. Thanks.

Did she try changing her keyboard settings? Did you google it? I did and there are lots of options. Without knowing what phone she has, it's difficult to know which choice to select. I've had apple products for years but never had this happen so I don't know.

The first thing I'd do is a hard reset. Hold the home and power key down together until it shuts off and comes back on.

The problem with the keyboard happened while we were on the phone with Apple Care. We were each on one of her devices and neither device would allow us to get rid of the onscreen keyboard. Doing a hard reset was not possible and stay connected to the tech helping us. I tried sliding up, down, right and left to make it go away and nothing got rid of it. Since it covered up the "forgot password option", we weren't allowed to move forward. There has to be a way and my searcing online found nothing.

I would go to an Apple Store....make an appointment ....those representations really know the products....However , the problem with the Apple phone 6 could be because that phone was phased out.....I had that model a few years ago....and was told in time I would no longer be able to do any updates to that phone....based on that... I upgraded to the 8+ model.....if all you do is use your phone for calls you may be okay....but if you want to take full advantage of what a smart phone is capable of ....it may be time to upgrade ...

With devices that do a lot, you need to trade in before they become obsolite or decide you can use a less technical (expensive) item.

It's not worth the headaches and frustration and maybe loss of data to hang on and hang on. Software gets way more complicated and eats memory and storage. It's just the nature of the beast.

I started out with a 128K computer. A beast for the time and the envy of all. Did I ever think I'd need a terabyte of anything? I'm not sure it existed at the time. . .

I have two iPads. A newer one and a very early one. The early one doesn't get updates, etc, but it works fine. I am on these boards with it quite often. Still get FaceTime, texts, etc. I am happy with my Apple procducts and to me that's all that matters.

i have all apple tech products and have only used apple since the iPhone and iPad came out.

Unfortunately, the keyboard does get stuck every once in a great while and as previously mentioned, you have to turn it off and then back on.. That solves many issues on apple products and they sometimes even say to do that in the customer support forum on the website.

@gadgetgal613, since your friend has both an iPhone and an iPad, she can make and receive phone calls from her iPad if they are on the same Apple ID and WiFi. If the keyboard issue is on her iPhone, she should call Apple at 800-275-2273 on her iPad and that way she can follow what they tell her to fix the problem. Just have her make sure that the Apple info is in her contacts. To be able to call or iMessage on her iPad, she needs to go to Settings>Cellular>Calls on other devices >turn on and turn on the other device. For iMessage, go to Settings>Messages>Text Message Forwarding>turn on iPad.

I know that this doesn't fix her keyboard issue, but Applecare should be able to help.

This is what it is.

You do not live near an Apple store.

The closest Apple store is a 2-3 hour drive. I tried swiping up, down, left and right and nothing would move the onscrean keyboard out of the way. I did multiple searches before posting here and didn't find anything which worked. We were trying to log into iCloud, the onscreen keyboad popped up to enter the password and the keyboard blocked the option "forgot password" which is what we needed to select. We were stuck because the keyboard was blocking the screen.

Like I previously posted, I no loger have an iPad and I almost never do anything technical on my phone. I just want to know what I can do to move or get rid of the onscrean keyboard should it become necessary in the future. Thanks.

However, have you tried signing on to iCloud from your computer? (icloud.com) You put in your Apple ID and have an option for your password or forget password.

You cannot "remove" the iPad or iPhone keyboard, but you can disable it. I googled "How to disable iPhone keyboard" and found this in one minute. Your search to remove was unsuccessful because there is no such technique. It stays in the phone but can be rendered unavailable for use

here are explicit instructions with screen shots as well as written steps. click the link, follow the steps. It works the same for iPhone and iPad, any model, and version of the operating system.

I'm sure this answers your question. Hope to read you were successful. Don't leave us all wondering!
