MacBook Pro Issue

I am using an older MacBook Pro. My computer "guru" just installed Catalina (I had been using an O/S a couple of levels below that. My question arose when I was using the older operating system.

My issue: Under the Menu Bar, there's a dark gray shadow maybe 1/8-1/16th deep. There's a similar issue below the icons bar at the bottom of the screen.

It was hoped that the new operating system might minimize or correct that issue. Since it did not, his suspicion is that it's a screen issue. He's going to investigate this further.

I was wondering if anyone here has any knowledge about that issue.

It would have helped if you had mentioned which model MBP you have. That info is in >About This Mac

Depending on the age of your MBP, ask your "guru" to reset the PRAM and/or SMC.

You can do this yourself if you wish. Instructions are on Apple's Knowledge Base website & their YouTube support site. If neither works, it's possible your motherboard is failing.

I fonted this response on a 2012 MBP using Snow Leoparad. MB still going strong.

I haven't heard of the issue.... but I too have an older MacBook Pro. I was afraid of installing Catalina, because I've heard it can shut the laptop off for good and Apple had to "brick" quite a few laptops.

@Mz iMac I'm sorry, I just don't see any other descriptive name other than MacBook Pro using Catalina O/S. Is there something I'm missing? (FWIW, I'm old and not all that tech savvy!)

Left hand corner of your Finder you will see . Click on it.

A screen will pop up. Select About This Mac.

Another screen will pop up showing which model MBP you have as will as the current OS installed.

Depending on the age of your MBP, as well as the OS, the above image may look different. The info is the same though.

If you are not tech savy, let your guru do the PRAM zap and/or SMC. The PRAM zap requiries finger gymnastics.

NOTE: PRAM zaps & SMC are to be done as a last resort.

@Mz iMac Thanks so much. I did see that information, I just didn't know what you needed to know other than MacBook Pro. I do believe my "guru" did that PRAM " thing" (technical term! LOL) that you mentioned. Thanks again for your input.
