Overheating streaming stick

I had a message on my tv screen the other day that said my Roku streaming stick was overheating.

It was plugged directly into one of the HDMI portals on the back of the tv for about a year now.

I read this may be common when a streaming stick is too close to the television and can be remedied by adding an extension HDMI cable.

I added the HDMI extension cable. Fingers crossed, so far so good.

Has anyone had this happen to their streaming stick (Roku, Fire, or other)?

I've used Roku sticks for years. Had one quit working but no overheating. I have trouble with Fire Sticks.

My Roku device - not a stick - has overheated once or twice. It plugs into one of the TV's HDMI ports. I disconnected it, let it cool off for a while, then reconnected. Since the incident, I keep the Roku device on a cork pad so the heat doesn't damage the furniture..

I have two Rokus (a 4K streaming device and their Ultra) and both have overheated in the past, though not recently. Mostly it's a summer issue for me. I moved my Roku Ultra out to the front of the TV and I have a fan in that room that's more or less pointed that way in the summer and that seems to have solved that issue. Simply blowing on them works for a few minutes to cool them sufficiently to keep working for a bit, though that gets annoying.
