I have caller ID for the first time in my life

Due to a string of hang-up calls I've added caller ID to our service for 6.50 a month. That's why I didn't get it before. Anyway, where is the number shown? I'm not seeing a thing on my screen. Is there a spot that accumulates called in numbers?

I think the latest landline phones I purchased have caller id built in. I don't have to pay the phone company extra for the caller id. Since it's through your phone company, you may have to contact them to find your caller id.

My home phone is VOIP for $10 per month which I get with my Internet service through the cable company.

The number just shows on the screen. Sometimes no name or number shows.

I would not pay $6.50 per month for caller id.

We don't answer our phone. The sound is turned off. We have an answering machine if anyone needs something they can leave a message.

I just got another hang-up call so I called the phone co. because no number showed. She had to make one more technical change. Then her test call showed up perfectly. I'm very edgy about these calls as we live way out in the woods and I'm occasionally home alone like today because DH went to a funeral out of town for a few days.

@depglass what kind of phone do you have? I don't really remember having to do anything special to set up the caller id. Although when shopping for a phone I made sure that it had that feature. I have talking caller id, which in my opinion is fantastic.

I'm glad they got that worked out for you.

But I'm surprised that any carrier still charges extra for call waiting. It's been years since that's been additional for the most part.

I have a Panasonic with one master station with the answering machine and two auxilliary stations. There's probably another one in a drawer somewhere. We've had it for years but it's been just fine. Has call waiting button, which I would never get. Also has a phone book which I don't use. I think this will be just fine, DH will call on his drive home I'm sure and I can check some more.

Think I got caller ID back in 1980, was fascinated with it. Mine has always been with the phone company. Got the whole package with 3 way calling/VM/Call Forwarding, that I used when I didn't want my phone ringing when I worked Graveyard Shift.

Had many phones and caller ID always popped right up. Glad you got the help you needed.

Caller ID shows up on my tv too, thought everybody automatically had that these days along with on the phone screen.

@depglass If you don't answer your phone and the caller is a solicitor, they usually hang up on the 3rd or 4th ring as that's when answering machines are set to click on. They don't want to talk to or hear a machine so they hang up. That could be the calls you're getting.

I have these phones placed so we can get to them within the three rings. (open concept house) We have a small independent phone company who has been a bit late adopting current technology. I was surprised to see the number on the TV screen, I'm thinking its through the wi-fi? Our computer service is through the phone company. We had gone to Hughes Net for a couple years. I guess others did also, because the phone co. updated and offered faster service, so we went back to them. We also have jockeyed between Direct and DISH. We are too far out to have cable.
