FACEBOOK QUESTION

Not sure where to post this question, but the posters here seem very savvy, so .........

Can anyone tell me why I get so many "friend suggestions" for people I have no possible way of knowing?

For the life of me, I cannot trace a connection between me, friends, and the "suggestions" that are made. Different countries, different continents .... it seems totally random to me.

Even more importantly .... is there a way to make FB stop doing this? It's now gone beyond annoying.

There are 3 dots in the right hand corner of that box. Just click on and you can choose to hide them. Not sure how they choose people for you, I thought it was likely friends of friends. I don't get other countries, but sometimes it's people I would never ever friend. But, sometimes it comes up with people that love seeing again.

FB loves to annoy us - with pics of people we never heard of. Even if we know them - we don't need the page inundated with junk.

I too get suggestions from people I would love to be in touch with again. The rest I just totally ignore. To me not a big deal.

@Tinkrbl44 I agree, I never post and would love to get rid of the entire page but I have to read again how someone did that.

What scared me, seriously, there were photo's of guy pointing guns at you, I thought if they landed on my page, am I landing on their page? I complained many a time but no answer and it was ignored. That was several years ago so now I just ignore it and never use it hopefully someday it will just go away.

It's possible some of your friends are playing games on FB and have friended other people playing the same game so that they can get help on the game. In that case, they could be from anywhere. However, usually, the friend request would include a notation like "1 mutual friend" if that was the case. You could then click on the requestor (not the Accept!!!) and see who that mutual friend is.

Or, the friend suggestion could be based on an interest group you might be in.

I haven't gotten any totally random Suggestions. I have gotten some totally random requests, usually males probably looking for lonely females. I just ignore those.

Use an addon called Facebook purity

you can remove or hide things

I use and don't see those suggestions, any topics or names I don't like or ads

@Tinkrbl44 As near as I can tell, the "Suggestions" are people that are "Friends" with at least one person on my friend's list. If "mutual friends" shows under the name, then you can "mouse over" that to see who the friends are. If nothing shows, I'm pretty sure it means that either your friend or the suggested friend (or both) have their friends list hidden.

While I don't autimatically accept friend requests, I've accumulated quite a few over the years that I don't actually know in real life...people I've gotten to know online, friends of friends who were playing the same game I was a few years ago, people with similar interests, etc.

Also, keep in mind that there are a lot of people who's page incompasses both they personal and business (or hobby) life. I get some very interesting "suggestions" due to having several (actual) friends who are well known enough in their respective fields that they actually do know some pretty famous people.

Anyway, it's like anything else I see online that I'm not interested in...I just scroll on by (ok, sometimes I'm bored and curious as to what the connection is).

@Tinkrbl44 I would check your settings. I have been on Facebook for many years and don't get friend suggestions from other countries. The friend suggestions that I get almost always say how many mutual friends we have. I may or may not know the mutual friends. I wonder if something in your settings is causing these strange friend suggestions.

I have an account, with my name and birthdate only, no photo, no friends, nothing...I have never posted a thing. I have only listed a few things for sale on Marketplace and I get friend requests, some peope I know, others I have no idea who they are.

FB follows you around, seeing your interests, posts, responses, likes. You don't even know if these people actually are these people! Some are fakes attempting to hack into your computer.
