Laptop or tablet??

I have a MacBook Air which is about 4 years old. I do everything on my laptop bacause I like the size. I have an Amazon 9 tablet which I use for music and email and photos. I am very tempted to get an Ipad but not sure if it is worth the money. I won't replace my laptop for a few more years as long as it works. SO my basic question is does the Ipad do all the things that my laptop does? I am retired and don't need a super machine but I have used apple products for many years and love them. Not sure if the Ipad could replace the laptop some day

I would replace the laptop and skip the IPad. It is difficult to upgrade a laptop after it gets too old because the software changes a lot.

The brand new Mac Air's are so fast with the new Apple made chip. I'd consider that.

the iPad doesn't replace the laptop

I think it all depends on what you use them for.

In my case, I haven't had a "computer" of any kind for a few years now. Just an iPad. And for what I need, it's more than sufficient. I don't even use most of the features on it.

But does it replace a laptop computer? No. It can do a lot of the same things, but not all of the same things.

I have both, and they are older models. I would never give up my computer for an iPad.

I would be lost without my iPad. I have a Macbook Pro and love it. There are some things I do only on my MacBook Pro. But I use my iPad most of the time.

I find it easier to use both apple products instead of one apple and one android. They each function differently and I like using products that work the same way.

I can't imagine going back to Android.

I considered moving to the exclusive use of an iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard when my 11 year old MacBook Pro died this summer. My first generation iPad Air still works, but only holds a charge for about 90 minutes, rendering it pretty usless for travel.

I ended up with a new MacBook Pro and iPad Pro (without the keyboard). Although I'm retired, I'm still a heavy Numbers user for both personal and volunteer projects, and the mobile version of the iPad just doesn't provide the kind of functionality that I need.

IMHO, I'd stick with what you have for now. Everyone's needs are different and it sounds like yours are being met with what you have.

Both for me. Always have an HP desktop computer....and I have three IPads throughout the house. I use all of them daily.

I do a lot of typing, so only having a tablet is not an option for me.

I have an IPad and we have the Mac. There have been occasions when I've had to fill out some kind of paperwork and have not been able to do it on my iPad. Need a computer so boot that up to get that job done. I use my iPad almost exclusively and my husband only uses,the Mac.

My sister only has the the big iPad Pro and gets frustrated that she can't do some things she wants especially when she's doing some of her ancestry work. I know she wants a laptop because it would do more but s she is lmostmblind now she hasn't spent the money on one

@bargainsgirl I love my MacBook Air but it is 7 years old....however it still works very well and I use it everyday for many hours. I love that it is only 11" but a laptop.

I had an iPad and found that I didn't use it too much and ended giving it to DH. I hope to replace my MacBook Air with another when it's finally time to go but wish they still offered the 11" which for me is perfect. The smallest they have right now is 13".

I have never had a laptop. I have a Mac Mini and 3 iPads. I very rarely go on my desktop computer, maybe two times a month. But I'm always on my iPad. I shop, read and answer emails, pay bills, color, games, etc. Since you don't need a new laptop right away, I would get an iPad and see how much you would use it. If you find that you don't use it or like it as much as your laptop in a year or so, trade it in and update your laptop. For me, iPads are easier to use, much more portable, and very accessible.

I have an Acer Chromebook laptop which converts to an android tablet. It folds flat like a tablet so I can use it just like a regular tablet or I can leave like a regular laptop so I have a regular keyboard. It is a true hybrid, with both a Chrome Operating system and with an android tablet built into one device.

I use a Samsung S7+tablet and a Note 10+phone as my main devices.

I really do not need a computer anymore.

This was a 5 year journey.

I found two devices that can handle my 6000 emails and stream music at the same time.

JMHO.

You are a Mac person and a new 8th generation iPad with 128 GB of storage is a very nice device. It should give you may years of good service.

The storage in the 32GB device is too small.

My sister and BIL replaced their older ipads with this tablet. It is fast and has a bright display. You can find many reviews on YouTube.

Amazon is an authorized retailer of Apple products.

I use a Acrobat Reader app to fill out PDF forms with this app.

Look for this or something similar for an IPad.

Does your sister have a keyboard with her iPad Pro. There is not much this device can't accomplish.

A 12.9 Pad Pro with the appropriate keyboard can handle most tasks. There is a question of how much do you want to pay.

I love my MacBook Air. I do not have texting on my phone...it only rings, but I am able to text via my email address with friends that text. I am not sure if that can be done on a tablet or not. Anything I have found I want to do on the MacBook I am able to do.

Apple products work very well together. This is why people buy them.

Some Samsung tablets have a call and text feature. Verizon and AT&T will not allow cellular customers to receive a text message on a tablet unless you use a Verizon messenger app on your phone. You can then use it on a tablet and get texts.

I use a nice Samsung messenger app. I am happy.

@Still Raining I have both and rarely use my IPad Pro. It is heavier and more cumbersome to use than the Mac Air and I find I enjoy the keyboard and bigger screen for most things.

I use my laptop 95 percent of the time. When I do use the IPad it is often along with the laptop when I use the IPad to bring up a document and make notes while I am on the phone--using both devices to argue some point with someone about something! LOL!!!
