I just received this on my Fire ( no computer) :

Subpoena Notice from Google (Internal Ref. No. _______)

Hello, Google has received a subpoena for information related to your Google account. This email

This is exact!y what I received except I left out the reference numbers.

I didn't open the email because I didn't want to get in trouble. Should I open it ? Has anyone received such a thing as this or have any ideas or suggestions regarding this.

it's spam, don't click on anything and just delete it.

My best guess is this is a scam to try to access your google mail account. I would just delete it without opening it.

Pretty sure no one will get to this until the police are done with my warrant and the IRS has been paid off 😂

From a purely procedural POV, if google has been served, it is their problem not yours.

Just get rid of it. Amateurs!

I just did a quick Google search and didn't find anything suggesting this is a common scam, so it could be legit. People can subpoena Google for information about your account. It's not unheard of and Google has a very specific series of steps that have to be undertaken to do so.

As a general rule things like this are a scam, but there's very little I can find saying this is a common scam. You may be on the cutting edge of being among the first hit by this scam or it could be legit and your records are being subpoenaed. If you're in a divorce proceeding, other court or criminal proceeding, it could be legit. I doubt that anyone could subpoena Google for your records in a job search, background check. credit check, etc. but if there's a legal action of some sort involving you, it could be legit.

Just opening the email on a Fire tablet should be safe enough. Just don't click on any link in the email. If you have any doubt, and you have an attorney, printing out the email and taking it to your attorney may be wise. If it has obvious grammatical or spelling errors, it's likely a scam, but I'm not seeing reports of this being a common scam.

Amazon, and Apple botb have an email address to send spam. Google should have an place to send this spam too. Please do a search.

I agree with @gardenman, that this could potentially be legit if you have a google account. Is your email account gmail? Google also collects information about you other than email. If it were a real subpoena, google may give you a heads up before it complies so that you can go to court to get an order that stops google from complying if you wish. I don't know this, I am speculating. If you do have a google account, if it were me, i would look for contact info so that I can contact someone and find out if there is a subpoena, and request a copy.

Just a quick update. A little more poking around has uncovered that a lot of people who played one of the following games: Vegas Downtown Slots, Slotomania, House of Fun, and Caesars Casino, are getting their records subpoenaed. A man by the name of Sean Wilson has launched a class-action lawsuit against the companies behind those games and the subpoenas are attempting to find others who played those games who wish to join him in the lawsuit. It looks like this email is legit and not a scam. Google will share your information with Sean Wilson unless you formally opt-out assuming this is the same email that you received.

@17thfloor It's fake. Don't open it. Even if it turns out to be real THERES nothing you can do about this. You can take a screenshot of the email and keep it in your photos for your records. After the screenshot, delete the email.
