Moving Firefox On My Dock On My Mac

I have a Macbook Air and have been getting too many error messages on the Forums. I want to start using Firefox as my main browder. Firefox is way over to the right on my dock, and I accidentally hit Safari all the time. I would like to move Firefox to be on the left side of the Dock next to Safari and Mail. How can I do that?

I Googled it and couldn't find an answer. I probably wasn't asking the question properly because I don't know how to word it. I've tried dragging it, and it won't drag. I also right clicked on Firefox to see if there was an option to move it, and there isn't.

@NickNack I went to my dock, held down the left click on firefox and was able to move it. Trick was to put curse over firefox before holding down the left of mouse. Took me a couple of tries and I hope I explained it so it makes sense.

Thank you @mspatmac . Maybe I'm left clicking incorrectly. I tried holding 1 finger on the trackpad and moving Firefox and I tried holding 2 fingers on the trackpad and doing the same. I Googled how to left click and hit Control and pressing on the trackpad, and I don't seem to be able to do it.

I'm on my second MacBook Air so this isn't really new to me. I've just never thought about left clicking before.

@NickNack I can't help you because I use a mouse w/my MBP.

Suggest you use the Finde>Help for "Dock" instructions.

I have a Macbook Air and my Dock is located at the bottom of the screen and I use the trackpad. Without anything open I put the cursor on the Safari icon and moved it up from the Dock area and was able to put it in different places on the Dock. I don't have Firefox loaded but it should work the same way. Hope this will help you.

@Harley883 It doesn't seem to work for Firefox. I've tried many different ways and can't move it. It probably works for Safari because it was automatically put there by Apple.

@NickNack I suspect your Dock FF alias is corrupted. Try this.....

Quit FF

Drag FF off the Dock (poof it).

If unable to drag off the dock, right click FF.

In the contexual window select "Options>Remove from Dock"

Next, go inside your Applications folder.

Drag FF icon to the section of the Dock you want it to be. The original FF icon will still appear inside the Applications folder.

**All the icons in the DOCK are aliases.**

Using the trackpad, locate the cursor on Firefox, hold down the left button on the track pad and hold it down. Use your finger to slide the icon the the desire location on the dock and release the left button.

@glb613 That's the first thing I did. I've done it many times since. It's not moving. I know I'm doing it properly, as I've moved many items (not on the Dock) in the past.

I use a mouse with my Macbook pro and don't have any problems moving icons around. Have you check the system preferences for your track pad?

@glb613 I just did and it looks fine to me. What would I be looking for? I'm getting used to having Firefox where it is, so if I can't move it that's okay.

@NickNack,

If you haven't resolved this yet, remember you do have the option to remove the Safari icon from the Dock, completely, and that way you won't select it by mistake.😊

These application icons are found in the Applications folder -- you can easily add them back to the Dock by going into Applications, opening them, and then use the "Keep in Dock" option.

(Just a note: Safari for computers has never worked well with QVC's website. I think the mobile version for iPad and iPhone is fine, but the Safari browser version used for computers has always had a myriad of weird problems here that I don't see with Firefox or Chrome.)

I'm not sure why the icon isn't responding when you select and drag it. If it's open and in use while you try to rearrange, you might try closing the Firefox browser before making changes.

Does it move at all when you try to relocate it or does it remain completely fixed?

@dooBdoo It doesn't move at all. It just stays where it is. What I've ended up doing is using Safari for everything except QVC. I can't "pinch out" pictures to enlarge in Firefox, and I can't use Touch ID on Firefox, so Safari is better for everything else.

I do miss using Safari for QVC, because I like to pinch out and enlarge the pictures on the boards. I can't even get to the forums anymore on Safari.

I never had much trouble with Safari and QVC until recently.

I am stumped, @NickNack. So, you can move all the other application icons on the Dock, but not Firefox? And you can't drag Firefox off to the Desktop (which removes it completely from the Dock)? Since you do want to keep Safari there, perhaps as a temporary measure you could move the Safari icon to another placement so you won't select it by mistake.

There have been great suggestions by others on this thread -- I'll keep thinking about this and if I have any ideas I'll post them.
