I have had this printer for nearly 10 years, a Canon PIXMA MP560. Never had a problem with it. Now, when I try to print from my computer it says "Printer Offline". I can make a copy on the printer and that is fine. The printer was working fine and all of a sudden came up with this being offline.

I'm not very tech savvy, so does anyone have any suggestions of things I should check, do, or whatever? I'm at a loss. I thought maybe the printer had met its maker, but since it copies, I realized that the printer is still OK, it's just that it's not working in conjunction with my computer.

Thank you for any suggestions/help you could give me.

@wismiss - My HP does this a lot. I turn it off and reboot it, and it has always taken right off. One time I went to my computer settings, uninstalled it, and reinstalled it. That worked when we had a power outage and it wouldn't reboot. I called HP and they told me to try that. You could try one of these. Good luck!

If the rebooting doesn't work, uninstall then reinstall it. I would suggest you go to HP.com and download new drivers and/or software. Have you installed any new updates from Microsoft? A friend did the latest Windows 10 update and her e-mail stopped working. We deleted the account, added it back and it's now working fine.

The reason you are getting the offline message is, the computer and printer aren't "talking" to each other. It could be a corrupted driver, bad cable or a wireless problem. Ten years is a long time to have any device and it may be going bad. I've had my Canon printer for at least 10 years and it's fine but, I don't print much these days.

If rebooting doesn't fix the problem, the printer cable could be bad. Make sure it's fully inserted at both ends - at the printer and at the computer. On my Brother printer, I sometimes have to give an extra push on the printer end; it seems to come loose by a hair and then the computer can't connect to th printer.

If you have any other printer cables laying around, try one of them on the Canon. If you don't, try calling Canon customer service. They may recommend that you buy a new printer cable (not expensive).

Why replace cables and etc? I usually change my printers after 5 years.. I donated the last one.

My current printer is wireless and I can print from my smartphone or tablet.

I buy a printer that connects to a computer with a USB cable, to your router with an ethernet cable and wireless.

A printer like this may cost a bit more.

I would look for a Canon printer on Amazon, but you can buy anywhere.
