Apple Watch

When my daughter was here helping me with my broken back, she talked me into buying an Apple watch.

It came the day before she left to go back to Denver. She has one and had no trouble setting her's up.

She worked on my phone trying to pair it with my phone for hours, right up until she walked out of the door. She makes her living knowing everything about computers and electronics.

It just would not pair up. So then my son-in-law (who also makes a living delving deeply into computer stuff) came to try to get it to pair up. He worked on it until my daughter (his wife) threatened to leave without him. Ha!

So...I have a dear friend who usually hooks up all of my electronic stuff (all 12 of my Blink cameras, etc).

She worked on it for about 3 hours yesterday. It just would not pair up with my cell phone. She called Apple (the company) and they walked her through it. It STILL would not work.

She took another try at it hours later. My phone sat next to the watch all night (both charging away). Every now and then I'd touch it to see if it was doing anything. Nope...nothing new.

Today my friend came over to take one last look at the watch. She was so excited that the thing (watch) was now about to move to the next step. She kept saying..."It's going to connect...fingers crossed".

Well....I'm happy to announce that finally...finally this watch is paired with my phone.

I so admire people who can follow directions and people who have a lot of patience.

I have to laugh because in the beginning, I actually thought I could match them. When I think of how many people spent so much time on this phone and watch....

Anyway, these are all people who have their own Apple watches and had no trouble pairing them together.

This is an Apple 5 watch. I'm curious if anyone else had a really hard time pairing their watch to their cell phone.

I called to try to make an appointment to take it into the Apple store and was basically told nothing was available until Jesus came back here to visit....

Anyway, is there anyone else out there who had a hard time like everyone did with my watch?

Not to make light of your problems pairing but 14 yr old grandson did it in no time then did his Moms. Darn kids LOL

Sorry to tell you this, but mine was super quick and easy. You will grow to love your Apple watch 5, so the effort is well worth it. I consider mine to be absolutely essential. I wonder how I ever lived without it (but i did, of course, for....several decades!)

How old is your IPhone? Maybe something to do with different versions of Bluetooth.

I do not own a Apple watch.

@Annabellethecat66 I bought an Apple Watch last winter and wore it all of 5 days before I took it off and sent it back. I didn't like the small screen. I have a small wrist so the watch covered my whole wrist. It felt heavy and I just didn't find it useful. A smart phone is good enough for me.

I hope you like your watch, especially after all the hours that went into trying to set it up.

In my opinion the device is completely unecesary. A regular watch will due just fine which we have worn for decades. No one needs to be carrying the internet wrapped around their wrist. My understanding is they also make a pair of glasses that broadcasts the internet. Stick to the tried and true computer to get you through.

@Annabellethecat66 , I have Apple Watch 4 and I love it. I have it set up for notices from Ring doorbell so when I am working in the backyard, I know there is someone at the front door. I can listen to my music when I walk without taking my phone. Very convenient.

In my opinion the device is completely unecesary. A regular watch will due just fine which we have worn for decades. No one needs to be carrying the internet wrapped around their wrist. My understanding is they also make a pair of glasses that broadcasts the internet. Stick to the tried and true computer to get you through.

While you are entitled to your opinion, I'm glad you aren't in charge of everyone. Not everything has to be necessary. You can own something just because you want it. I own a FitBit and only wear it when I walk. I also carry my iPhone in my pocket. Why, to check my steps and have a phone in case of an emergency. You may want to live in the past, I don't. Thank goodness we have choices.

Electronics can be a bit finicky at times. I'm glad you got it to work.

Smart Watches are a handy gadget. I don't currently have one but for $30 and up you can get one that'll do all kinds of things including monitor your health. Some monitor your EKG and the newest Samsung Smartwatch even checks your oxygen levels. Some have fall detection so if you fall they'll automatically call for assistance. They're very good just as a watch, but they can do so much more than a watch and when you look at the price of higher-end conventional watches, they start to look like a bargain. I'm pretty intrigued by the newest Samsung smartwatch with its features. I'm not sure I'll spend the money on one, but it's tempting. As someone who lives alone, the fall detection could be handy.

Love my Apple watch I think I have a 3 and it took less than 10 minutes to pair, I followed the instructions and it was pretty error free

Small screen my watch is 38MM and they have 40 and 42mm versions too the smallest size covers my entire

@Reever I'm just happy I'm going forward with the rest of the world. I don't have an Apple watch and don't want one. I do see the benefits to it though. It does much more than tell time. I try not to judge people for having different needs and opinions than mine.

@Lilysmom I love your moniker. One of my granddaughters is named Madeleine Lilly. Isn't that pretty? The poor kid didn't have a name for at least 2 weeks because her parents couldn't pick a name!

I wear the watch during the day and at night I switch over and wear the Versa Fitbit because I always want to know how I slept. It's simple and I'm used to it. I know Apple does similar but it's just me.

So, I'll explain why I got the watch. It's not just to have (what was it) the internet on my arm all of the time.

After breaking my back in March, my daughter's got together and since I live alone in a two story large house, decided I needed something that would advise them if I fell AGAIN.

When I was 18 I fractured 3 vertebras, and I was being treated for back issues, when I broke my back my girls said, "That's it. If we're going to have peace and you insist about living alone....please do this just for us".

I have 8 grandchildren, 7 are living. Some are in their teens and all know the internet upside down and all around.

I spend a surprising (maybe to some) lot of time alone with them. We go shopping and to lunch. We sit and talk about everything. Just how long do you think I'd hold their attention (like I'm able to do) for sometimes as long as 2 hours. They aren't plugged in, we don't even have the car radio on.

That is priceless to me. The things they teach me and I teach them fills up my heart. Living the Va/DC area all my life, I guess you could say (in some things) I had a front row seat to many things not even reported in the news. (My mother and sister were telephone operators for the Democrats). I also worked at the Pentago for the original "Space Force" but it was called Manned Orbiting Laboratory. A lot of famous people came into my office, they especially like hearing about stuff like that.

But I'm off course here. I always joke that I had them my 'electronics' and they 'fix' it/them. But truth be told, they teach ME things about it, they don't just do it for me.

I try to stay up with famous people they follow (laging way behind here); just so we can converse on lighter subjects.

So, finally, I (probably like @Lilysmom and many other's here) I enjoy some of the electronics that are the latest and greatest.

I worry about my brain being able to hold onto information these days. I can remember every address, every minor details from the past, but sometimes my words fail me...that worries me.

If I feel like an Apple watch, Alexa, an iphone, whatever, helps me to make my way through a lot of the muk in the world today, sign me up.

Phew! My brain has been taxed...I must go rest. My daughter is sending me texts and pictures. She's with friends in the Colorado mountains. I'd be really sad if I didn't get to enjoy seeing her smiling back at me.

You know, the Apple watch does a lot more than just brings you clos(er) to the internet.

It's kinda like this. If you don't like it or want it, don't rule out something that you don't know all it does.

If you do know all it does and still don't want one .... that works too.

I'm using the default font provided by QVC. It doesn't look any smaller than everyone else who posts.
