IPad Pro as MacBook replacement

My 11 year old MacBook Pro has most likely died. I have an appointment for attempted repair on Monday but at this point I will be thrilled if they can extract my files and copy them to an external hard drive for me.

Has as anyone who is a heavy Numbers user had luck in using an iPad Pro with the magic keyboard as a replacement for their MacBook or iMac? How’s the functionality? Is it as good as the full version? The version on my iPad Air is pretty elementary.

I’m hoping that I can get down to one device rather than the full laptop at home and the tablet for travel.

If if you don’t use or wouldn’t buy Apple products, that’s entirely up to you,But that’s not what this is about so kindly refrain from those comments.

I know that my accountant in Athens is been using his iPad Pro with Numbers. Every time I see him also coming to my store for edit, he awlays carries his iPad Pro with.

Tusday I have a conference call with Mr. Ioannis and I shall ask him if he also uses the magic keypboard and etc...

Until then, perhaps a fine lady may give you her inputs about what you expressed on your post.

I don't think an iPad can replace a laptop, its an addition , but everyone has different budgets

new macbooks are very light so a new one could work well

also Costco has a coupon for them now

Thanks for the feedback. Budget isn’t a consideration. It would likely cost me more to buy the larger iPad Pro and keyboard than a MacBook Air would cost. I also need to get an external hard drive, but Amazon has a number of options there.

A lot depends on how any attempted repairs go. I do know that I really need the full version of Numbers, and from some of the Apple support forums I don’t think I can get that with the IPad.

You can use a IPad Pro as a laptop replacement.

Apple is replacing the Intel processor with a new Apple A series in all laptops. It is a perfect time to step away from a laptop.

Please do some research on the change in this processor.

My concern is Apple will only support your MacBook Air for two years. The length of an Apple Care warranty.

A tablet, phone or computer needs three things to run a database. A fast processor, RAM,and storage. A ipad Pro would run your spreadsheet software. You may want to consider moving to Excel or a pro version your current software.

I used Excel extensively while I was working. I’ll not go back to it. The full version of Numbers that I have on my laptop is fantastic. The mobile version on my iPad is, as I said, very elementary. I would be very happy to migrate everything to the iPad Pro platform if it will work for me. One less device to worry about! Support for doing that within the Apple user forums is mixed and very adamantly on one side or the other.

I would contact Apple sales by email and ask someone to help you find the best hardware to run Numbers Pro.

The more details about this project the better able some can help you.

I would ask for two different configuration, and would buy direct from Apple.
