Thanks, gardenman. I was hoping that was the problem. Since I don't plan to activate this new phone until November, I needed to know if this was something abnormal so I could return the phone within the 30-day time frame. Looks like everything is OK. For the time being, I have adjusted the settings so that it shows the correct time. Thanks, again.

I bought the Tracfone Samsung A10E that was the TSV and found that the clock on the phone did not want to change automatically to the correct time. I finally went into the settings and fixed it, but I'm wondering why it would not correct itself. I've never had this issue before. Could the problem be due to the fact that the phone is not yet activated? In other words, does a cell phone receive the info it needs to update the time through the carrier network? (I connected it to the internet, but that didn't help. So, I'm assuming you need to be connected to the carrier.) Thanks for any info about this.

Your guess about the carrier is correct. Modern phones synchronize their clock with the carrier signal. They have an internal clock that works when out of range, but by and large they use the carrier signal to set the clock and maintain the correct time.
