I Pad Charging

I just got a new iPad to replace my MacBook Air. It charges soooooo slowly. I got a pop up to charge it. It was at 10%. That was around 1:30 or 2. It's now at 40%. Is that normal or is the charger defective. I'm used to my iPhone and Mac air charging really fast. TIA

I think something is wrong, @Bridgegal . If my ipad is totally dead it only takes a couple hours to charge it to 100%.

It sounds like something is wrong with it.

I have an ipad that may have been carved by Jesus when he was here on earth (it's that old and I love the thing).

It only takes about 1 to 1 & 1/2 hours to charge up.

Really, it was one of the first ipads. I love it. I think maybe I'm maturing. I always want the latest and greatest, but lately I've been holding on to my oldie but goodie stuff.

Have you used the Apple charger and cord that came with it? Other market products don't always work as well.

@Bridgegal If you just got it, take the whole package back NOW. Something may be defective. There is a short warranty with the iPad unless you've got Apple Care. Don't wait. Return it NOW.

There is a one year warranty. There is no apple store here but we'll be where there is one on July 10. I'll take everything with me and go in and see what they say.

My iPad, just like my iPhone, can have the battery drain quickly depend on what's running in the background. I would try closing all apps, especially maps, close notifications, turn off WiFi and see if that makes a difference. Also sometimes you just need to power down and totally turn it off.

I have noticed that mine don't charge in a straight line. Takes a while to get up to half and then zoom.

Since you have time, why not try another run at it?

@Bridgegal , it can't hurt to do a hard reset. There might be something running in the background that you're unaware of. It might not help, but it can't hurt. Just in case, you don't know how, hold the home button and power button at the same time until the Apple symbol shows on the screen. If you do, sorry (I never assume anything).

Thanks. I did that and also did a reset in settings. It seems to be charging a little faster but I'm still going to take it to the apple store in two weeks when I'm close to one.

@Bridgegal, glad that helped a little. It, also, might be helpful to call Apple and talk to a technician. If nothing else, they will give you a case number, which you can show when you visit the store. If it's defective, it would help your case especially since it will be after the 14 day return policy.

Thanks. I did call tech support and got a case number. He suggested going to settings and doing a restart. I did and then lost the connection to him. I took a screenshot of the case number then deleted it last night. It's not showing up in my deleted photos. UGH. I'll keep looking since I won't be going to the apple store until July 10.

Check your email, they usually email you and will include the case number. You could call back and they might be able to find the case number (I don't know if they can or not). Of course, it's a pain to keep calling. Just make a note on your calendar when you called and talked to someone. I have found it's always helpful to document everything, no matter the product or situation. Good luck!

Thank you so much. I got all excited and went hunting for an email . The only one i got was a survey on my chat with apple support. I looked in trash, all mail, in box. Nothing. Rats. But thanks for you suggestion.

Was the case number included in that email survey? That's too bad. Anyways, you're welcome, wish I was more helpful.
