QVC came through with a speedy shipment; received Fire 8" in 2 days and at $ 49 (including additional 32gb chip). I usually buy from Amazon but this is a really good buy ($40 cheaper than Amazon).

@threecees : I have it all set up and it works fine. I have bought a lot of Fire tablets over the years (14 in 12 years) for me including at least 6 for my Grands. Since they are young, screens get broken and one got taken by housekeeping by mistake. At least at $50 or less each they are affordable. Actually, I want to upgrade to the new Fire 10.1 but it won't be out until closer to Christmas. Hopefully there will be a deal on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

I just received the Fire 8HD, so far so good, except it is taking a long time to charge. Did some research and some people also had problems with charging. Has this happened to anyone else? I have a Kindle and a Fire, have placed a protection cover on them but I was wondering if they are really needed. Also just ordered a case since I use them for all of my Kindle and my Fire.

I now always use a case and the shatterproof glass to protect the screen. When there is the occasional drop, so far no.problem! I buy my covers from Ebay ( much cheaper).

I buy my cases from Amazon. The case has a strap to hold it. I don't use a screen protector.

The brand of screen protector is omoton 2 pak.
