iPad Pro vs iPad Air

I have a really old ipad Air and I'm thinking about replacing it.

I'm undecided between another Air or the Pro. Part of me thinks the Pro is too big, but my sister LOVES hers so I started considering it.

I'm a heavy ipad user, but I have a great set up with it and just wonder about the Pro being too big and cumbersome.

Anyone have the Pro and regret getting the bigger size?

There are lots of online articles comparing the two. I recently purchased the Pro. It is fantastic!

@mom2four0418 - yeah, I’ve been looking at the comparisons. I’m not big into astrology, but I’m a Libra.....scales and all. I have a hard time making a choice between two things whether it’s an iPad or a purse. This could take days. LOL.

I thought I really wanted the iPad Pro, I bought the iPad Air, for what I use it for it's fine. If money was no object for me, yes I would have gotten the Pro over the Air, but the Pro price tag was too steep for me. I'm sure if you set them up side by side, the Pro would win at every turn, but honestly I don't think it's enough (for me) to justify the high cost, I'm happy with the Air.

Well, I'm not a Libra, but we could be twins! I researched for many hours (also with purses) and decided on a refurbished Pro 10.5. It is brand new.. I chose it primarily because of the camera and speakers. My all-things-electronic expert (DS) applauded my decision!

I have several iPads: from the original, to the mini, to the Air, and the Pro. My favorite size overall is the mini, but that is another story. Like you, I questioned the size of the Pro when I purchased it. However, when I purchased mine there were two sizes— an 11” and 12.9 Pro. I got the 11 inch Pro and have been happy with it overall. Good luck with your new iPad, whatever you choose.

@KailaS - I have a mini also and it’s still in great shape, lightly used. I love my mini.

Phonearena.com will allow you to compare these two tablets spec for spec. You can even compare your old iPad 3 with either new iPad.

The Air has a lighting connector and a 3.5mm jack.

The Pro uses a US-Type C for everything. You would need wireless ear buds etc. Its has a slightly brighter display, a faster processor and 1GB more of RAM.

The differences between the Air and the Pro are so small I would buy the IPad Air. The camera may have been improved.

@Nuttmeg - thanks. I don’t use earbuds at all. Can’t stand to have anythIng shoved in my ears.

I think I’ll go to the Apple store and look at the iPads and the iPhones. I really need to update both.

Do you live near an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Reseller? Why not make a visit, see both for yourself and maybe talk to someone who can give you some information based on how you use what you now have and what you may want to do in the future?

I suggest if she goes to Best Buy she should make an appointment. Recently when I was in Best Buy on the customer service line, I heard one of the tech guys ask someone who bought their iPhone in if they had an appointment (they didn't).

I went to the Apple store yesterday morning. I'm in the market for both a new ipad and phone.

The new phones come out on Friday and they don't even have them in the store for you to look at yet though the associate was able to help me by showing the size they'll be.

I looked at the ipads and decided I wanted the ipad Pro. But then I came home and priced it online and it's just too much. If I were buying an ipad only maybe, but with me also getting a phone, nope. I can do it, but I won't.

So it will be another ipad Air for me which is just fine.

I have the Air 2 and I absolutely LOVE it. It has the cellular card in it. But when I tried to use it to read music from, the screen was just too small, so I bought the Pro for the larger screen, and I can switch the LTE card back and forth so have either be cellular. I still use the Air to watch movies and such in bed at night -- especially when traveling because it is such a nice compact size to pack. The pro is dedicated to music these days. It's really handy at the piano because the pedal page turner frees up my hands so I never have to worry about a page turn. I am a choral director and have all my choir music on it.

@gidgetgh I’m sure you will be happy with the iPad Air, I am. Like I said before if money was no object I would purchase the Pro. The Pro was at least $1,000 more for what I wanted.

I just ordered a new iPad Air today. For my needs, I didn’t consider anything else. I mostly just use it for shopping, email and communication now. I ditched my computer completely. I’m not a gadget guru. I really wouldn’t have even needed a new iPad if mine would have been able to get the new iOS that’s coming out in a few days. I wanted to make sure I got the latest model so hopefully it will last me for a few years.
