iPad charging much slower since update 12.4.1

Hi. I have an iPad Pro, eleven months old. I updated to the latest iOS, 12.4.1, two days ago. My iPad is now charging very, very slowly. I’m just passing this along to others, so they don’t end up like this. Wait to update to see if Apple remedies this issue.

What I have noticed is that the charge is much slower lower down on the % then it picks up again. Not sure if the total is longer.

@Mindy DDid FPL reduce the electric supply because of the storm. I didn't get any message from them that they were doing that, but I know that can happen here on Long Island.

No. We have full power. We have two central air units, fridge, lighting, microwave all running at full potential. We have not lost power. This battery thing began immediately after I updated to the newest IOS. This would not be the first time that Apple pulled a stunt like this.

I have an iPhone 8, iPhone SE, iPad mini 4, iPad generation 5, all updated to 12.4.1. No change in charging time. Maybe your version iPad is adversely impacted...or your particular iPad. I’m sure you have done a restart by now.

Yes, I’ve done a reboot or two. I also lowered my screen brightness to use up less juice. I have an iPad Pro 2018, bought a couple of weeks before the 2019 version. Could be my model. Apple has had this issues with different models and battery charging after some previous iOS updates. Thanks for the feedback.

@Mindy D, I updated my iPad 6 to iOS 12.4.1 the same day it was released and I'm not experiencing a slowdown in charging. So far, I haven't seen this as a reported problem with the version.

You've done some great, basic troubleshooting... I'll add a few ideas.

Be sure all apps have been updated, and also close all apps running in background and disable "Background App Refresh" unless you absolutely need it enabled.

When not using it, turn off Bluetooth, Location Services, and Screen Time. Disable automatic app updates (under iTunes & App Store). A look at “Battery” in Settings might provide useful clues, too.

Even though the problem began when the iOS was updated, it's possible that coincidentally the cable started to have problems at about the same time as the update. Slowdown in charging or failure to charge first-line troubleshooting is the cable. (A few weeks ago I noticed my iPad 6 charging was slow as molasses running uphill in winter... then realized I had mistakenly used the very old cable for my very old iPhone 5.🙃😜) Try a different cable, if possible. If not already doing so, charge directly from the wall outlet.

Do a backup/sync of the device. This clears out the old accumulated iPad Analytics/Diagnostic data — that data can cause all sorts of strange glitches. (The only way to remove it is with a backup/sync, and the added bonus is that it frees up space.)

I hope this is helpful. If not, perhaps posters have other ideas or this might show up in the version "bug" list — if all fails you might want to report the problem to Apple (copy and paste link: apple.com/feedback/).

@Mindy DIf you are still having issues I would strongly suggest that you post in and/or read the iPad forums on Apple's Forum site. If there is a bug in the latest iOS update, it will be confirmed/commented on there first. Long before anything mentioned on other websites like OX Daily & Macworld.

Also, you can submit a bug report on Apple's site.
