We have had every tv service available. Tired of the prices and paying for channels we don’t watch. We are streaming via Fubo. We have all channels and extras that we want (tennis and outdoor) we even have nfl red zone. It cost 70 for 3 TVs w 500 hr dvr. Excellent picture and easy to utilize with Firestick . The only live channel we don’t get is abc ( they have abc on demand) we are using a 20 $ HD antenna to get abc live.
Highly recommend Fubo! They offer a trial.
I am not associated w this company

Woooo hoooo! Doesn’t it feel good? We cut the cable tv cord this weekend with comcast. Got so sick of paying $$$ For so many channels we were not watching. We got sling and hulu with the firesticks. Got them from amazon for 15$ a piece on primeday. Now we have to use comcast for internet because they are the only provider in our area😖😖😖 but we slashed 90$ off our monthly bill. We went to best buy and grabbed 3 rabbit ear antennas for 14$ a piece and can get the local cbs, nbc and abc I watch. We are beyond thrilled. Never heard of fubo and if we can't get verizon fios im sure we can’t get that.

We dropped cable tv this past spring and couldn't be happier getting rid of the outrageous price for cable - just wish we would would have done it a lot sooner! We are saving $116 a month! We have Hulu Live and dh gets his ESPN channels and I get TCM and Hgtv plus all our local channels and plenty of other channels. (We use a Roku since we don't have smart tv's).

Since dh gets Amazon Prime we also get Amazon Prime Tv which is great. It has a lot of old tv shows which I like such as Dr Quinn, The Waltons, Andy Griffith, Magnum PI, etc. There are several British documentaries and movies I've enjoyed too.

We cut the cord this past month and went with free TV and Hulu and already had Amazon Prime. DirectTV was going to raise my bill $65 a month and all a retention specialist would offer was free HBO which we don’t watch when we had it for free. I got sick of paying for over 60 channels of nothing but infomercials (QVC, HSN and Evine included in that number). So I went from paying around $150 to $45. So far I haven’t missed DirectTV one bit.

I had Optimum but when I moved last year I needed to purchase a new TV so I bought a TCL Roku and a Roku stick for the Sony in my bedroom. I am able to share the cost of Hulu with DS & DDIL who live nearby! I have cable on my small kitchen set because it was cheaper to add that than to pay for internet alone. A good arrangement and good way to manage costs for now.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I enjoy having Directv with the convenience of having a dvr and easy-to-use program guide. I didn't by a 4K big screen to watch streaming. For me there is no comparison to satellite when it comes to picture quality. I'm willing to pay extra for that alone.

Always like to learn when it comes to this topic.

hckynut

@hckynut wrote:

@cimeranrose

You DVR, what do you use as a recorder? I am assuming you have purchased your own DVR or Tivo. If so, describe exactly what types of cables you use to connect Outputs to Inputs to Outputs. From Hulu to recorder to TV. Interested in exactly the way you did this.

Also wondering if you were able to direct the optical audio output to say a sound bar or Surround sound receiver. Or are use using composite/component or coax to route the digital and/or analog sound?

I'm a video/audio purist that prefers strictly at least 5 channel audio. I have 2 receivers that produce discrete as opposed to synthesized mono broadcasts, 7 channels and up to 9 speakers with 2 subs for the real low decibel ranges.

Thanks for your info,

hckynut(john)

hckynut

You might want to check out a TV tuner like the Mediasonic Homeworx. It combines a digital tuner with DVR functionality with a user supplied external hard drive of up to 2 tb. It costs about $30. It has an HDMI output. They're pretty neat little gadgets. A lot of companies are making them these days for the $20-$100+ price range.
