My question is about the 'end of life' policy. So when my chromebook gets to be 5-yo then the Chrome OS no longer will update...that part I understand. Question is: since the OS won't update when it gets 5 yo, does that mean my chromebook becomes vulnerable to cyber attacks or hacks if I continue to use it? ...or does the chromebook become un-usable when it gets that old?

ETA- It's 6.5 years, not 5 for updates to end...and this is not consistent from brand to brand as well as models. It's confusing to say the least.

If you asked me, I don't think google is very forthcoming about disclosing their EOL policy regarding Chromebooks. To me it seems a bit to-good-to-be-true pricing of Chromebooks in general. But now I know exactly why they cost less than a traditional pc or tablet of equal capabilities. Now that I know how it works, I would think twice before investing in a more expensive Chromebook...especially when I know it has an expiration date.

I believe this just came out recently, because as much as I love CB's I would have never brought one [even back then] if I knew this would come to pass. This makes no sense to me at all. I feel bad for my stupied in-law that brought the pixlebook for over 1800 last year.
