Do I Really Need Security Protection

So I have a chromebook, 3 Kindle Fires, and 2 iPads, I don't have any virus protection on any of them. I thought you don't need them for these devices? Is it that Evine, HSN, and QVC are just trying to sell me something I don't need (what a shock that would be)?

@Jordan2 I just read some articles (not ads) that suggested even though Apple products are not as accessible to fraud, it is not unheard of and becoming more of a threat. Are Macs Free from Viruses? C/Net You might want to purchase an antivirus program.

I understand that you do not need virus protection for a chromebook. It has it's own protection. That is one of the beauties of a chromebook.

The others, I'll let someone else comment.

Though with an ipad doesn't it depend on what operating system you have? I thought windows (if that is what you have) always needs some virus protection.

Attacks are not limited to a specific OS. Regardless of what you use, all it takes is one wrong click on a malicious email link (phishing is the #1 form of attack) for an attacker to infiltrate your system. It is a tragic misconception that Apple can’t be attacked. Apple OS can be attacked and HAS been.

Chromebooks and iPads don't need additional virus protection. Those come with built-in protection with their operating systems and the devices don't get infected. Android tablets rarely, if ever, get infected.

Most of the virus and malware software mainly applies to Windows-based devices.

i asked 2 times when i got my chromebook they said no... but when i got my tablet i did install one of those free anti virsus.. i use to have norton, and thats way too expensive

You do not need virus protection on your Chromebook because it is built in. But, you do need it on your other devices. I have two tablets and a Iphone and I have virus protection on those devices. They have free malware and free virus protection on mobil devices so check it out in the gamestore or online. Takes a second or two to install it and you are all set. Also you need to clean the devices I mentioned every so often so your devices run faster and better. You can install that too and for free. Your Chromebook can be set to clean history and cookies too or you can do it yourself as you go along. Just go to settings and follow the directions and your golden. Hope that helps you.

Jordan, I do not like cleanup apps on an Android phone or tablet. They work but want you to install a lot of junk programs. Google Play Store Android 6.0 and higher comes with a Settings icon. Inside the Icon is a section called Device Management. DM has tools that you can use to clean your device.

Android devices need security protection. You can use a free version from one of the major companies.

Verizon gives customers McAfee mobile with service. Other providers may give do the same.

@Nuttmeg I have seen security apps, it seems they are free for a trial run but then they charge you monthly, am I right in thinking that?

I have been using free applications on my devices for years and if they ask me to take more protection that I have to pay for I click on no thanks and go on. I never had any bloatware on these free virus protection application's no junk that has been added or anything. I am very happy with it cause it costs me nada.
