My password situation is out of control now. I used to know them all and it's just exploded recently. Part of the problem is they fill in nicely on my mac air, but not so much on my IPHONE.

What am I doing wrong--or not doing? I don't always use applications on my phone, so a lot of what I do would be just through Safari, but these passwords don't always cross over between computer and phone--but they are in the cloud?

Am I missing something here? How do you do it? Have you even had passwords compromised?

There are a few ways you can manage this. If you always ask the iPhone to save your passwords when you create one, you can manually retrieve them at any time. Go to Settings --> Passwords & Accounts and you will find a list of all your sites and apps and the login and password info. You can read or copy it and use it anywhere. There's a search field at the top of the page, so you can search for a site/app if your list is very long.

You can also use a service like 1Password. You use one master password to get into 1Password and then it encrypts and saves all of your passwords. The benefit of 1Password is that you can use it on a computer OR a phone. If you set it up in your browser and log in, it will manage your passwords automatically. The service costs around $30 a year to cover all of your devices. Here's a link to a YouTube video explaining 1Password: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=112&v=mcly2-b1W20

Been using a small notebook for passwords for about 10 years. Even have them categorized under headings such as Banks, charge cards, utilities, insurances, employer, types of stores/businesses (such as clothing, pets, home goods, etc.) Every time I have to set up a new password I log it in my notebook along with the sign in name in the appropriate category for that business. I must have about 20 pages! Lol! But it's the only way to keep track and I would not trust having them on my phone or in the cloud.

I use a program called Dashlane to keep my passwords secure and easily accessible to me. I don't use it in conjuction with a phone but it does sync across all of your devices. You can use the basic free service or pay a nominal annual fee which will let you know if any of your passwords show up on the dark web and what companies you have pw/s with that have been compromised. My spouse has access and my kids will be able too, should I become incapacitated and they can deal with my online accounts as needed.

@Sooner wrote:

               @Sooner, The best advice I can offer is to suggest that you read information online about how to set up and how to use and then access iCloud Keychain. The general information about Keychain access on macOS is helpful, too.

               The support and "how to" articles explain it much better and more clearly than I can. I haven't had login info compromised -- I follow a lot of the advice about secure logins (again, far too much to try to post here, but I recommend frequent reviews of new online articles).

               For sure, no one is completely safe, and even when we do our part sometimes the websites themselves are compromised and they have to alert us to make immediate changes -- I try my best to be careful and vigilant.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
               For browsers in general, everyone needs to be aware that when we allow the browser to save login info to autofill our username and password on sites, that means the information actually is saved on those browsers.
               (To see how to find your "password manager" saved logins used for autofill, just do an internet search for something like "how to view my saved logins" and add the browser name, like Chrome, IE, Firefox, etc.)
               Since we can look up the information there, on the browsers, it's not really necessary to write it down for everything we access -- yet I understand the written version is a handy backup and most things that offer us more peace of mind are good things.
               Written hardcopy can be lost, however, so just keep in mind that there are other ways to look up our most recently saved website usernames and passwords if we need to do so.
