we got roku about a year or so ago when we cut the cable cord. i love it. you have to have a internet connection for it to work. we got netflix and hulu (which you pay for.) and you get tons of free stuff. You won't get most abc, cbs, nbc stuff thats current. You can add that stuff, but it extra. you can also opt for commercial free. best thing i ever did.

I think that netflix and hulu combinded are about $25.00 per month.

You can get local channels like NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS and more. I get QVC and Q2, all by using a simple interior antenna. All you do is screw it into the back of the TV and hang it on the wall. The one I use is called the Mohu Antenna and I got it on Amazon but I've also seen them at Walmart.

I have the Roku stick w/voice command. I never use it. I enjoy my Directv service well enough that I don't need it. It's a nice addition but you still have to pay for most of what is offered in streaming services.

The 'Box' model mentioned in the OP is not one with which I'm familiar. But I have some Roku3 units and like them very much. At this point, those are probably obsolete and I would imagine about any model of Roku would be good. The 3 was the first one that had a lot of features that I'm sure a lot of them have now.

You need to have a network, so I imagine you already know that. There are some free channels there, but it's not like you're going to get free cable tv.

All I subscribe to is Prime, Netflix, HBOGo, and the Showtime one (those last two you need to carry those channels in your cable/sat package and then they are free - there are some for purchase, though).

I like Roku. They seem to have good, fast processors and certainly lots of features.

I've had Roku for years and I have a box. Love it and at this time see no need to upgrade to the stick. There are many free channels for movies BUT you will have to watch commercials. Roku also has free movies. I do a few pay subscriptions yet I also still have my Directv. It is very easy to install. I did mine via HDMI - I plugged it into the tv and then my DVD player. Then I was ready to add channels from the channel store. Hope you have already got yours up and running.

hi cherry! We just bought 4 Roku boxes and kept two cable boxes. You have to have at least ONE cable box connected to a tv., also WiFi connection.

You can get several free channels, but we usually watch what our local channels offer. At real time. For that you need to go into your cable app (ours is spectrum or time warner) and you can watch any channel they offer that you paid for before. We bought one box for 29.98 (the least expensive) at Walmart to try it out first. You can always return it. It works just fine. We are happy and have had no problems. Saves $$.

Tucker
