I have never had a problem with photos before but just took a few pictures that aren't showing up on my MacBook Air. They're on my phone but not my laptop. I looked on icloud dot com, and they aren't there either. I Googled this issue and can't find a solution.

I had a problem with my internet and telephone the other day (Comcast) and had to disconnect and reconnect my WiFi. I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. My computer had disconnected from my printer, and I had to reset that just now. Does anyone know what I can try to get my pictures to show up on my laptop?

Yes, you should not have to physically sync. When I occasionally get that problem I close photos on my mac and then reopen it may take a new seconds for it to sync the new pictures. Worst case scenario completely rebooting the phone usually fixes any issue.
